Dallas-Fort Worth housing market shatters records with $24B in sales by year end
Quote:
Dallas-Fort Worth's strong housing market shows no signs of slowing — despite expanded lending regulations— with analysts expecting the region's home sales to reach $24 billion by the end of the year.

That would more than double the market's sales volume in four years.
Quote:
"We were ecstatic when the market reached $11 billion at the end of 2011," said MetroTex President Steve Habgood, in a statement. "This year, we reached $22.7 billion by the end of November and could conceivably reach $24 billion for the year."

Gateway residential community project to transform Forney
Quote:
Developers have kicked off construction on a major residential community just east of Dallas, hoping to hitch a ride on demand for moderately priced new homes.

The 1,850-home Gateway Parks project on U.S. Highway 80 in Forney is the biggest section yet in a larger development in the works for more than a decade.

The 2,000-acre community will contain everything from apartments and shopping centers to offices and single-family homes. It’s being built by an investment company owned by Dallas’ Hunt family.
Quote:
Forney is about the same distance from downtown Dallas as West Plano. But while Plano is in the news almost every week — thanks in part to moves by Toyota and Liberty Mutual Insurance — you don’t hear much about Forney.

And Tarrant County residents hate driving to Dallas for everything else.

The Rangers belong to us. Dallas can get their own team...

Plano council OKs $2.3 million incentive for 175 more apartments in Downtown
Quote:
The Plano City Council approved a more than $2.3 million incentive package Monday for the Southern Land Company to build two mixed-use buildings that will have at least 175 apartments.

The five-story buildings will have 12,800 feet of non-residential space and four stories of apartments on top of that. A three-level garage with 120 public parking spaces – 50 more than the current parking lot on the site – will be nestled underneath. The whole project is supposed to be worth $27 million, at minimum.
Quote:
Demolition will start in February, construction in the following July, and it’ll be two years and a month before the buildings are expected to be finished in August 2018.
