Upon rolybling's original post I thought's I'd take a closer look myself as I was in the area. Like you say the panelling looks flat. I know it's not been filled with mortar yet however the panels themselves look to be concrete printed or at least a really thin material on top. Unlike Roof Gardens where they use actual bricks, this sadly is not.

No doubt. Grim to walk along there. And you can only dream of crossing. Needs a chapel Street makeover

Agreed, but I don't think it's very likely given the lack of alternative routes from this direction (Chapel street/Crescent traffic was directed to use Regent Road instead).

I still think the area can be regarded as desirable though - lots of people have chosen to live here, and more would like to. The beauty of being on this side of Chester Road is access to the canal towpath; hardly anyone living around here walks along Chester Road. The towpath is much more scenic and avoids all traffic by going underneath Dawson Street. The whole area feels quite self contained pretty much as soon as you turn off Chester Road.

Now, actually living in an apartment facing onto the road maybe quite a different matter...

I know one certain poster who will certainly agree on here, but that Tyre place needs bulldozing and developing quickly

Got a picture from the tram today of the back of the site. Once that brick is up then it will blend in seamlessly with the older buildings....

The back of the building is mainly cladding not brickwork

You can see in the corners of these images the frames are supposed to be a matching brown.
