Looks like they've started with an external refurb!

I've been told the entire ground floor, plus the little old blue building next door, is being made into an indoor food market along the lines of MOJO in Regent Rd in Sea Point

Last I heard a rather large shared office space provider was looking at this with a very hefty TI cost. Would in that case think the facade refurb is still on the cards. Think resi is also still an option on top of the parking deck

Heard closer to R13k, would be a prime location for them but one would think the building would need to match their brand and currently it certainly does not

we using R10k after visiting their sites in London, its also a pound / rand conversion rather than the TI actually costing that

So that BusinessLive article article confirms...

In Cape Town, WeWork will take up four floors at the 80 Strand Street building

Any update on ground-floor plans? A MOJO-like space would be fabulous and I would have thought would fit in quite well with the sort of buzzing community, access to facilities etc vibe that WeWork seems to want to create (judging from its web site). And if Tap'd decided to replicate its MOJO gazillion-beertaps setup at 80 Strand that would make the whole scheme perfection for me.

They should really do something with the granite! It's like a massive pile of kak sitting proudly above a plate of sushi.

They're erecting this steel thing on the Loop Street side. Can't figure out what it is, but it has the width of a lift shaft.

Something to do with wework, possibly?

What a wasted opportunity vs the early promise on page 1 of this thread. Disappointing even compared to the watered down stuff later on in page 1. Not doing anything with the facades of the upper floors is such a shame.

I hear you. But given the state of our economy and construction industry, I don't really blame them for not taking the refurb further

Perhaps its a good thing that it stays in its current ou-doos state.
This way ultimately it will attract a demo crew faster than a mediocre reclad , and we can thus have a nice skyscraper there instead by 2030

Turns out it's just a fire escape🙄 An ugly building just became butt ugly.
