Cards galore as Green slide to defeat in feisty encounter at Bowdon

AMID a flurry of cards given out by the umpire, Kendal Ladies 1 went down 3-0 in an ill tempered North West Premier Division One game at Bowdon.

The Greens readily expected a tough game against a strong, physical side and so it proved, with a rough, uneven pitch hardly helping matters.

Leyton Orient 1 Carlisle United 1: Jack Iredale scored his first Carlisle United goal to end the Blues' run of defeats at Leyton Orient.

The defender scored in the 48th minute to cancel out Josh Wright's early penalty.

It was former Morton man Iredale's first goal in English football and it featured in a much-improved second-half display by the Cumbrians.

Kinley leads Kendal swimmers to glory in Carlisle

A WONDERFUL haul of 59 medals, 18 of them gold, made the trip up to a two day festival in Carlisle well worth it for an in form party of Kendal swimmers.

Particularly outstanding were Reece Kinley and Sophie Gibson.

Kinley produced outstanding wins in 50 and 100 breaststroke and topped this in the 200 individual medley where he pulled off his finest win.

Disappointing news for the world of rallying, reported by the News & Star

Quote:
Pirelli pulls backing from international rally for 2020

Pirelli has pulled its backing from the annual International Rally, which concludes in Brampton.

The popular event will still go ahead but as a one-day competition in Kielder Forest, which will remain as a round in the British Historic Rally Championships.

It is early days yet, but plans are already well underway for the coming year’s event and the team behind the historic rally are optimistic it will be a success - whatever form it takes.
Full story at https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/1...al-rally-2020/

The news article mentions that Pirelli has been involved for 28 years but associated with the rally for 45. The Cumberland Sporting Car Club, which organises the event, suggests an involvement of 42 years on the rally website.

Whichever figure is correct, it has been a long association and it is a shame that the sponsorship has ended.

Chris Lumsdon: We should enjoy Jarrad Branthwaite's rise at Carlisle Utd while we can

Carlisle needed to beat Macclesfield any way they could, and thankfully they did. The second half performance was better and United enjoyed a fair bit of luck during the game, but so what – sometimes you need that.

What really shone through, though, was the emergence of Jarrad Branthwaite.

I’d love to keep Jarrad Branthwaite and build my team around him, says Carlisle Utd boss Steven Pressley

Steven Pressley says he would rather build a team around Jarrad Branthwaite for the longer term than cash in on Carlisle United’s top young player.

The manager, though, says that if the Blues did sell the defender early into his first-team career they must reinvest the money in the right way.

Branthwaite is attracting more attention after his breakthrough into Pressley’s senior line-up at 17.

Dulwich Hamlet had the romance, Carlisle Utd had the goals - match report

Dulwich Hamlet 1 Carlisle United 4: All that matters is that Carlisle United are in the FA Cup second round this morning. The rest is colour and cameras and romance and tin-foil trophies and all the other things that can be wiped out by an outbreak of clinical finishing.

Kendal's belief is back, says boss

STEVE Edmondson believes Kendal Town's superb comeback from a goal down to win Saturday's crunch clash at Ossett United shows just how far his side have come.

The Mintcakes chief was understandably delighted at his side's victory which hoists them above the Yorkshire side in the Betfair League table and puts them in great heart for this Saturday's home game against Brighouse Town.

A bad result in a warped competition, but a moment of Carlisle Utd history for Jarrad Branthwaite - match report

Morecambe 3 Carlisle United 1: Great achievement, shame about the result - and the competition. Carlisle United history was made in the unloved Leasing.com Trophy last night when, in the 28th minute of a Northern Group G game against Morecambe, Jarrad Branthwaite stepped forward to intercept a pass.

Battling Kendal settle for a draw against Wakefield

IT was a day of mixed emotions for Kendal Ladies 1s as they once again fought tooth and nail with great credit but yet again failed to achieve a win.

Losing had become contagious for the Greens and they knew their home game against Wakefield on Saturday was a great opportunity to turn things round.
