Wouldn’t they have to wait until the TBM’s have reached Barangaroo before demolishing the tunnel segments at Central?

Yes I think that is most likely, as was pointed out above it would be possible to do it in the windows when the TBMs are stopped at the stations ahead but the timing could be a problem and everything would have to be put back. Much better to wait till both are at Barangaroo.

Yeah the spoil coming out at the Sydenham divesite is pale/whiteish sand. It's whiter than Bondi Beach sand for sure.

Btw the metro newsletter I received yesterday said they were going to install a concourse bridge on the northern end of the Sydenham station platforms this weekend. They're building this section so fast it gives me the impression that it will be ready by the time of the first of the annual Bankstown rail possessions start this December. Sounds logical. The rail link busses will terminate at Sydenham where passengers can then transfer to T4/T8 lines on either end of the platforms.

Already has, behind the hoarding on the north concourse. If you go to the lift from P12 you’re walking on a temporary bridge over a 5m deep hole

Look on the ground in the P12 area and you’ll see plates. These are covering piles that are being installed on weekend nights to ultimately hold up that roof in the above renders.

Doing the main excavation (to create that void in front of the electric building) will proceed in stages to keep the access open

That's intriguing, because I went back and looked at the EIS and the geological long sections and that's showing all Hawkesbury sandstone where the tunnels go under Central.

The Sydney Metro station box for Central appears to go under the Devonshire tunnel.

Does anyone know if they do this by mining?

I think the renders done for the northern concourse don’t do the design justice...I think the scale and lightness of the structure will create something quite dramatic with a quality similar to the Grand Concourse.

The tunnel goes through the box. They build a structure around it and then excavate underneath

Devonshire St tunnel can be seen in the 3D model at 0:30, about 3/4 of the way along the box at the S end

Sandstone is white/pale grey before being exposed to water and air. The best in Situ sandstone that is tunneled through is typically the palest in colour

Looks like a bit of a race between Nancy and Mabel for the next breakthrough.

Both about the same distance from Pitt Street and Victoria Street respectively.

I thought at one point they were going to tidy the Eddy Av entrance. Get rid of the shops and that tacked on verandah?
