I'd like to nominate those three buildings in Surry Hills (RTA offices, I think) behind Central station for inclusion in the "ugliest buildings" thread.

They are an abomination. I would swap each of those for 2 UTS towers anyday.

Cool photos! Does any one have a photo of the Kinsela's building in Taylor square? Used to be a brilliant night-club in the earky 90s. Is it still?

the original DA was for a 46storey mini ESB approx 150m high. ive only seen a small pic years ago.but planners deemed it too tall for the area so they chopped it into 3 bears.

Kinselas is still there, but it is not a nightclub anymore just a bar. The upper levels are known as Kinselas's middle bar and is more upmarket. While ground level is a seperate pub with pokies.

Small pic, only one I could find.

I never realised just how vast it was. Tragedy that it burnt down. I wonder if it was caused by pitch in the glass, like the CrystalPalace in London.

My GF and I were sitting in there drinking on Saturday trying to work out what the building originally served as. She suggested a Masonic temple, but I said the exterior doesn't match and so we were stuck. Thanks for clearing it up :P

Amazing colours in the Garden Palace fire painting.

Imagine if Sydney had all 3 grande buildings left; The Garden Palace, Anthony Horderns and the QVB. 1 outta 3 ain't so bad, considering one burnt to the ground & we did get some pretty good scrapers in lieu of another.
Still!

Yes, that main bar with the high roof was the funeral viewing room. I think there are still crucufixes on the wall decoration.

AWA looks cool, one of my favourites in Sydney, what a shame the lift still doesn't operate, I'd love to go up there.

Golden Palace, what a tragedy to have lost, how good would it be today.

I used to go to Kinselas back in about 92/93. Had big couches, never knew it's original use though.
