Construction of the biggest commie block estate in the Central Europe - Petržalka, which is located in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

Damn it.

Wiki says that 117,227 people lives there. Coucil says it is about 150 000 - 200 000.

I think we have at least two c'block districts in Warsaw with similar population

http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ursyn%C3%B3w
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bemowo
but it's hard to tell which have higher % of people living in pre-'89 commieblocks since both districts experience rather intensive growth but I guess there are many new buildings in Petržalka as well

But for both districts, Ursynów and Petržalka, it is remarkable that they haven't been realized with mass transportation from beginning.

Especially Petržalka still suffers from a missing metro or a light-railway, meanwhile Warsaw made it to invest in a metro for Ursynów. It is somewhat a shame for the supposed largest commie district in europe not to have any mass transportation instead of some Ikarus busses running.

It would be so nice to see a light-railway running through Petržalka. Haven't been there any (Socialist's) plannings but which have been neglected because of high costs? That would be pretty interesting to know.

Soon we should have metro in Bemowo too when they finally build the second line but there are many bus lines and trams so I wouldn't say it's a big problem... Trams weren't popular at that time, generaly public transport wasn't loved by planners on both sides of the iron courtain but here it was a necessity since car ownership was rather low and c'block distircts usually are well connected with buses.

But it is definitley another level to go by metro. I love metros. They are damn fast. At new years eve I visited Praha and our pension was in Kobylisy. Praha built a extension to Kobylisy some years ago. Within 10 mins we were at Hlavni nadrazi, thats how it should be done.

It is nice to hear that Warsaw builds a new metro line. I have to come to Warsaw one day but my polish is pretty bad. Meanwhile I try to improve my slovak language skills,
