Lviv looks great! Lviv is pretty much the Ukrainian-speaking heartland, right? As I understand it, the Eastern/SE parts of the country, as well as much of Kiev, are predominately Russian-speaking. It is kind of sad that the Ukrainian language is more or less off-limits much of its own, namesake country. That said, the Polish and Austrian-Hungarian architectural influences are quite noticeable here! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, Lviv is the largest Ukrainian-speaking city in the world.
In Kyiv (Kiev), the capital of Ukraine, almost half of population speak Ukrainian in everyday life, in Donetsk (large city in eastern Ukraine) - less than 5% of population, but in Lviv - 90% of residents using Ukrainian in everyday life.
Lviv and historic region of Halychyna (Galicia) was never a part of the Russian empire. Russian language and Russia's influence fades as you move from east to west in Ukraine.

First time commenting on your collection (after a few visits), and my first impressions of Lviv is that it looks more like a typical European city (with all the low- and mid-rise structures right next to each other) than a distinctly Ukrainian one, and those pretty outdoor patios next to restaurants and cafes make me think that I'm in London than in Lviv: those plant boxes add a lot of beauty to an already interesting city! Plus, that church with the Latin text "Soli Deo Vor et Gloria" really impressed me: that is one lovely building indeed. And, along with those bustling pedestrian streets, it is indeed surprising that Lviv is a really cosmopolitan city that makes me wonder if Kiev can actually model some of its streets after your city because I'll tell you: Lviv is a great city to go around and potentially live (if one doesn't mind a lot of snow in the winter!). The people I'm most impressed about are those "golden" statues that actually portray parts of European and Ukrainian history and aristocracy: indeed, those are wonderful street art performances, and it reminds me of the all-silver man who also acts as a statue here in San Francisco.

Fantastic stuff indeed, and I truly love your work! Keep those great snaps coming!

Thanks for the comment

Latin text "Soli Deo Honor et Gloria"(to God alone be honor and glory)

Its the Dominican Church, now the Church of the Holy Eucharist.

"The Dominican Monastery was founded here in the 13th century upon the request of the wife of Ukrainian Prince Lev Danylovych. A Gothic church stood here from the 15th until the middle of the 18th century.

In 1559, a true war for the bride, using artillery and all the subtleties of military strategy, flared up in this church and on the opposite square . The magnate Lukasz Gurka sought the expulsion of his legitimate (as he believed) wife from the monastery. Halshka Ostrozka, the wealthiest heiress of Rzeczpospolita, had found asylum in the Dominican Monastery. During the military actions all trade in Lviv ceased for several weeks, so the exasperated king ordered a stop to the fighting. A water-pipe leading to the monastery was severed, and this put an end to the siege: Halshka was surrendered to Lukasz.

In 1748, the Gothic Dominican Church was dismantled because it was in bad disrepair. In 1748-1764, a new church built in the late Baroque style. At the time tradition required that everything valuable from the previous church be preserved. As a result, today we can view the alabaster gravestone dating back to the 16th century – a reminder of the old Gothic church that vanished 264 years ago."
