I think those are just generic fillers for the render. The focus is on the square itself.

It really wouldn't surprise me. I don't see any walls around the government buildings or the parliament, I'll take parking lots over that any day of the year. Having massive central parking lots serving the government district is really inefficient and inconvenient though. The public servants at those offices will have to walk a really long distance to get to their work place. I would much rather have underground parking and organized sidewalk parking.

Let's not forget this city will have 0 public transport at first, cars will reign supreme.

So a mall just for gold? This reminds of the Designopolis. I think most of the shops there went bankrupt after a few years. I love the design of the building though.

Woah! Did ancient Egypt figured out how to time-travel to 2019?

How did I miss this? The square looks amazing. I really hope they'll stay true to this (- the massive parking lot in the middle)!

It's not a car park. It's a giant street. Mainly for army marches. don't you see the podium where the president will "address the nation"? It's the new version of the one in Al Nasr Road, Nasr City.

You're right, that's even worse though. I can't stand Soviet-style squares, if it's not built with day-to-day functionality in mind then it's just a waste of money in my opinion. Cities are meant for people and should be designed in a way that enables them, not for tanks and hollow displays of power. This is what happens when decision making is dominated by military logic.

Does anyone know if the design in the video and the peoples square posted earlier are the same thing, and if so which one they are going with? or are these two separate places?

This was probably just a proposal submitted by 5+ UDC.

Well that's good news. I like the first design better..... but that futuristic looking obelisk would have been dope.

In the early 2000s, Ireland had a ridiculous amount of malls built.
At some point, there was so many that most became ghost towns. It was then that planners stopped building in-door malls and instead opted for out-door ones.

Mini villages and high-streets that were just malls but out-door.

If Ireland can do that with it's sh!t weather, surely Egypt, with its year-round sun, can do the same.

Below, is Kildare village. An outdoor mall with over 100 luxury designer boutiques.

Imagine having this instead of that degenerate filth above.
