Really though 2022 would be the turning point for us, where is the new Copthorne at Paradise? I could go on, but there’s no point
I don't want to be Mr Doom and Gloom but 100 Broad Street wont get built any time soon, if at all. The current market can't support it.

211 can't be built as the design doesn't allow for the location of tower crane to physically build it. Back to drawing board for that one I've heard.

I still don't see how Courts Eastside tower stacks up either. Unfortunately.

Everything is being affected by stagnant rents and rising build costs. That is in part down to the B word for sure but there are other factors as well. (Let's not start a debate here on the B word. You know where to take that)

My prediction is that we'll have a period of inactivity in the main for 18 months while the world gets its act together. Apart from this thread which I fear may get more attention....

Just an opinion of course. Hopefully I'm wrong

Looks a real ***** does 211. The proximity of a crane was actually cited as a major significant constraint in the D&A.

Different options were specified. From a single crane on the car park void of HBH, to a crane potentially located on the vacant land right opposite on Tennant Street, or even two cranes on the site boundary - which apparently would double the construction programme.
They out of ideas now?

Always disappointing to hear things may be slowing up but still plenty going on in the city of Birmingham. Just look down the Construction thread.

I should probably have caveated the above by saying that relates to new build stuff only.

I reckon there may be some tasty refurbs in the offering during that period instead...

Aren't we currently experiencing a housing shortage?

Residential schemes outside the city get held up by nimby's. How come city centre schemes now seem to be struggling?

If the B word is having such sm affect them hopefully news of a probable deal this week may mitigate some of this ? Here is hoping !

According to the Place North West website, MCR are progressing their plans for a huge site in Manchester which is a similar size to New Monaco in Birmingham. They proposed plans a few years ago but didn't submit an app. It then went quiet for a few years but now they're in pre-app discussions with MCC.

Could we be seeing some movement at New Monaco soon?

As I recall the economic downturn prompted the developers to say there wouldn't be demand for that amount of apartments..

Found this, was a proposal for Post and Mail, does anyone remember how tall this would have been and why it never happened?

Pretty sure it was the recession. They built the car park instead with the tower to come later.

Birmingham could of had so many skyscrapers if everything went it way...I hope something like this is revived because it looks excellent something you will find in London.

Beware the night render! Looks more like something you'd see in a cartoon.

I know this is the "what happened" thread, though this might be the best placed to post this.

I was looking at www.skyscrapernews.com and if you include Vision, Proposed and Cancelled, then this is the list of tower over 100m we could have had

The Birmingham Needle 280m
VTP200 190m
Arena Central Tower 187m
The Tate Tower 176m
Bull Ring Tower 160m
The V Building 147m (same location as Arena Central ?)
Snow Hill Residential Tower 138m
103 Colmore Row 134m (original)
Broad Street Tower 133m
Post and Mail Scheme (Tower 1) 125m
New Street Station Tower 1 124m
New Street Station Tower 2 124m
Paradise Circus Tower 1 120m
Paradise Circus Tower 2 120m
No 1 Snow Hill Plaza 118m
Birmingham Central Fire Station 107m
Spiral Tower 104m
