Yes, I've wondered about that myself! I don't care where they put 500-600 foot buildings just as long as they're in the vicinity of the core!

For some reason, there's a strange phenomenon going on in our current development where lower height /density projects are occurring in many places that should be taller and higher ( like Thrivent) , while the tallest projects are happening on the outskirts of downtown. Go figure...
I would suspect that it has to do with views. I certainly wouldn't want to buy a $2M condo just to look into neighboring office buildings. The Eleven will have spectacular views of the river, DT skyline and NE.

I was thinking the same thing. It seems to follow the formula set fourth by the Carlyle and 200 Central. Although it is not located in the central core, the location is close enough to services and amenities that downtown provides while retaining views of the river and skyline. Together with the Carlyle, the tower works to visually define the limits of the Mill District and gives it a greater sense of identity.

I'm not sure I can agree with you. What about the 10+ restaurants, coffee shops, a taproom and grocery store that are within walking distance? Being next door to a park and waterfront must also count as a major selling point.

The views will be spectacular! Same for 200 Central. Thinking more about this, the factor of land availability must play a role. And the location of Eleven on the Mississippi River Parkway, and half a block from Gold Medal Park is certainly desirable.

I'm just sayin'...

This is a building that I doubt many residents will care for buying groceries from Trader Joe's or not. This is a luxe tower the likes of which we have never seen before in the Twin Cities. This is a game-changer. This is a tower where some residents will have live-in help. (Seriously, a penthouse with 15 bedrooms says something about the level of luxe involved.) Those of us who have ordinary jobs - though perhaps well-paid- can't imagine the extraordinary wealth that comes with living in a tower such as this. The smallest unit is over 1600 square feet. Most of the units are 3500 - 4500 square feet!

This is definitely a tower for the Twin Cities' 2%.

That is the reason I say that this location is strange. I can see this tower on 5th Avenue in New York. I can see the residents walking and shopping for Zegna, Coach, Kors or Gucci.

Here, not so much.

There are plenty of 1 and 2 percenters here in our metro to fill this tower, and as a matter of fact, I think this sort of tower is likely overdue for the amount of wealth we have here.

Of course it all comes down to demand, and there will be demand for these units.

Like my uncle used to say, better a doorman than a doormat.

Let me clarify...
When I said here I didn't mean Minneapolis. I meant this particular neighborhood of the Mill District. Certainly Minneapolis can support extreme wealth. I'm just doubting this specific location for that display of profound narcissism.

Yes, but then this is arguably not a very downtown-centric city. Given its often negative reputation, it may not be such an asset for someone making seven figures to be located next door to a dive bar and a stripper joint.

I can't even think of a good alternative parcel within the downtown core... Across the Mall from Target? The parking lot in front of Music Wall?

As a fan of Stranger Things, I'll be really disappointed if there's not a Waffle Bar in a building named Eleven.

Seems like it markets itself.....

They announced this three months ago. This is going to be 100+ million building, its going to take longer than 3 months to get all their ducks in a row, settle down.
