In the movie, there was a slovak city(as imdb says),and I think that must have been Bratislava.

Intensionaly - Yes>

creators wanted make movie about mystic. History of Carpathian Mountains are full of adventure storyies (e.g. dracula) so they use this story in hidden background as mystic dimension of movie together with poor geographical and political knowledge of ordinary americans.

Extensionaly - No>

Bratislava is modern EU city, although it only has about 500.000 inhabitans /Bratislava is not a big metropole/. Infrastructure is good /or in progress/, and bratislava is very close to vienna, what is very interesting, that two capital cities are very close. In hostel, creators of movie have used poor gypsy village, instead of Bratislava, the capital city of slovakia.

Finally, you can see Bratislava here in forum, so you can make your own opinion, becouse my words are probably affected with my slovak nationality

As Wikipedia says it was shooted in Barrandov studios (Prague) and in Český Krumlov town both are in Czech republic. According to Wikipedia: "Not single sequence was shot in Slovakia."

I've never seen the film,I just assumed it was Bratislava, because of this:
Plot Outline:
Three backpackers head to a Slovakian city that promises to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaits them. more

And that's the problem. Lot of people think Slovakia looks like the country in that movie. Stupid Americans have no idea how it look like in former Eastern block and they believe such movies are real what is certainly not improving the the international reputation of Slovakia.

Finally, I found the genre of Hostel. From Wikipea, also

... Hostel follows three backpackers in search of easy thrills in Europe, who are lured to an obscure hostel in Slovakia as victims of a secret thrill-kill industry ...

From what I heard about that movie it's certainly "worth" watching. Quentin Tarantino is well known for "deep intelectual" content of his movies.

V Podhradí zbúrali aj bývalú zbrojnicu

An article about demolished buildings under Bratislava castle. I don't know why, but I still think the new Vidrica project will damage this area even more than New bridge.

I seriously hope nothing new will be built within 1km of the castle. Bratislava knows better.
