I actually quite like the name Novocastrian, although you really can't beat "Geordie"!

Novocastrian is generally reserved for old boys of the Royal Grammar School.

True, plus it does sound a bit too old school (well, it literally is I guess, being latin) to be used as a nickname for a city's people!

And my old school has a similar name for alumni, based on the city's name. Which isn't the only link to the Royal Grammar that my old school has, coincidentally.

We are getting a few new (first time/just registered) posters on the forum, aren't we?

Good news, word must be spreading.

Yes we are, I've noticed that bit this week and today especially. Hopefully they will continue to post though and add to what we already have.

This might be one for you Historian. While browsing wikipedia at work, ahem, I mean...on lunch.... I came across a reference to a replica roman milecastle behind the Newcastle Arts Centre at the location where it would have been on Hadrians Wall. Is this right?

They have updated Goggle street view, but sadly it doesn't cover a great deal more of Tyneside. Just a couple of roads and a small bit of Hebburn and Jarrow is all I have noticed, although there may be a little more of North Tyneside..

I am not a real expert on Hadrians Wall, either in Newcastle or anywhere else, but I am aware about 'Milecastles', which were built on the wall at intervals of every Roman Mile.

It certainly seems like there was a milecastle in that location and I have two sources of reference for this . . .

(1) I know, from looking at the 'Newcastle Arts Centre' Website (which is on our websites thread) that they themselves have always said that their premises were built on the site of a Roman Milecastle, as their introduction on their website homepage states . .

"Newcastle Arts Centre is in the heart of Newcastle, a short walk from the Central Railway Station and Metro and is well known for ‘details’ art materials store, its Gallery and Black Swan venue. Opened in 1988 by Prince Charles and built on the site of a Roman Mile Castle the Arts Centre provides space for cultural industries such as Watkinson Glass, Dave Fry Ceramics, Sumo Design, Generator music development agency, Savage Guitar Studio and Skimstone artistic media community".

(2) Then, from the JSTOR, Indiana University Press website, I have the below article . . .

Taking these two sources, I think it is very likely that what you read is correct!

In regards to google St view, I'm disapointed more of North Tyneside was but on, though I guess I'm still relieved, not sure I ant many people being to see the St views of North Shields town centre.

For the record, this is the NE/Hull Sub-Forums 32,000th post.

Yeah but id like to see st views of Whitley Bay, Culllercoats and Tynemouth. And for the record, North Shields is a pretty interesting place with some nice buildings and streets!

See, its another reason why Tyneside should be one city cause if it was the entire place would be on Google St view!

Chatton . . further to the info in "Post 1138" above, I am attaching here a second copy of the JSTOR article on the 'Westgate Road Milecastle', as (because of some facet/properties of the JSTOR website) the image I 'embedded' at Post 1138 is NOT ALWAYS available!

I have printed it off and scanned it in to insert from my own site (so it is not quite as 'clear' but is still readable). See below . . .

Also, here is the LINK - http://www.jstor.org/pss/526196

So I was wanting to know.

1. Who is up for coming along to this meeting?

2. What we should narrow everything down to, what areas should we put most of the focus on?

I'd love for one or two of you to be able to join, because I really do think that this could be very improtant, and hopefully at a long shot prove to be vital in how NCC go about their way of things, and how it could shape Newcastle.
I said a few weeks ago that us taking a more active is vital, because unless someone does then we are not going to see the things we want to happen in Newcastle, and that their is really no point in us coming on here to complain alot instead of taking some form of action. I really hope some/all of you agree with me on this.
What is the latest with this?

Maybe its a good opportunity to ask them re. EPS and what they will do to ensure we dont get rubbish replacements?

I've been waiting for peoples replies to come after the new year, I was just about to post a reminder actually.

I'd really like soe help on this from you guys, I just feel together we could make the picture more clearer and that all of you alongside me would be better at explaining our frustration, our plans, ideas, and maybe designs?

i'd be up for that. EPS would be a good topic to discuss - maybe the likes of grainger town and gallowgate/science city too?

Yup, thats what I had in mind, from the thought of High end retail in Grainger town, to the poor coach facilites we have, and the badly run of EPS, and the failings of Science city.
