Devco Group has signed an agreement with Marriott International to open a Protea Hotels by Marriott as part of its new mixed-use development. The Admiral Beach Hotel and Apartments in the Western Cape’s Struisbaai is scheduled to open in 2023. The hotel will be known as the Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Agulhas, situated on the southernmost tip of the African continent.

Deon Winterbach, Director of Devco Group comments:

“Marriott International is extremely good at what they do with more than 6,900 hotels in the group world-wide and a strong and growing loyalty membership base. We are very proud to be partnering with this international brand and we look forward to welcome travellers to the southernmost hotel in Africa when the development is completed. The construction of the development will commence in 2020.”

is there a reason for the car park being on the prime sea-facing side of the development?

It is probably because it is a car park for the beach that has been there for more than 30 years and owned by the municipality as far as I'm aware.

Nice interiors - with a nod to all the Dutch and Portuguese shipwreck's' china plates, and a post modern version of ouma's shell art.

Pity then about the exterior. - bland.

The hotel will have 160 rooms which will make it the largest hotel in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. The next largest hotel is the 145-room Autograph Collection Arabella Hotel & Spa in Botrivier near Hermanus.
