Reaching out to knowledgeable folks on this forum. (general query and not related specifically to MAA)

What is the way to find out the version of the aircraft for a particular date of travel, while booking?
Say it is B777 300 ER. 4 layouts/versions in Seatguru. How to know which layout/version will be deployed on my date of travel?
Thanks for the acquiescence!!

^ guess this was also clarified by another friend in this forum that this is not direct Chennai - Yangon flight....

It is Chennai->Kolkata->Yangon flight with layover of 2 hours in Kolkata.
So, in all likelihood, you need to transfer through Kolkata and pass the immigration process there before taking the Yangon flight....

Traveled MAA-FRA-AUS today on Lufthansa. Loads 100% as usual, inline scanning was available at the international terminal which was a relief, otherwise not much else noteworthy. Sharing a few pics.

In a few days, scanning your baggage at Chennai airport’s domestic terminal will be easier: here’s why

Passengers travelling through the domestic terminal of Chennai airport can finally heave a sigh of relief, as the scanning process of their check-in baggage is all set to become seamless in a couple of day.

By Wednesday, Chennai airport’s domestic terminal will have new Inline Baggage Screening (ILBS) system and will replace the old X-Ray machines. So passengers will not have to carry their heavy baggage and send it for scanning through the X-Ray machines. Like the international terminal, where passengers just go to collect their boarding cards at the check-in counter and drop off their baggage, here too, this will happen henceforth.

Officials of Airports Authorities of India (AAI) said, they are waiting to get some manpower which they plan to have by Monday. “For the next few days, we will run a few checks and trials to see if the working mechanism is fine and to check for issues. Once we fix all this, we plan to open it on Wednesday itself,” an official said.

The domestic terminal has had long queues during peak hours in the morning and passengers are usually forced to wait for a long time to scan their baggage.

“As such, the domestic terminal is getting congested with the growing passenger traffic. Between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m., each passenger has to wait in the queue to first get their baggage scanned in the X-Ray machine and then once again at the check-in counter too. The whole terminal looks congested. Now, if these inline scanning machines come in, it certainly will ease congestion inside the terminal,” he added.

Soon, as part of the phase II modernisation work that is on, there are plans to install self-baggage drop machines too in both departure halls of the international and domestic terminals of Chennai airport.

Inline scanners installed at domestic terminal of Chennai airport

Four scanners have been installed, and will reduce the amount of time passengers have to wait to get their baggage screened, officials said

Quote:
Finally, Chennai airport’s domestic terminal has got four Inline Baggage Screening (ILBS) scanners, which will reduce the amount of time passengers have to wait to get their baggage screened. Up until now, passengers have had to lift their baggage and have it screened through a stand alone X-Ray machine, a process that was very time consuming.

Officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said they began operating the four machines early on Monday morning and they have been working fine so far. “This will definitely ease congestion at the domestic terminal to a great extent during the peak hours every day, from 5 a.m. till 7 a.m., when several thousand passengers travel out of the domestic terminal. Usually, passengers have to wait for quite sometime in the morning to first get their baggage checked through these standalone X-Ray machines and now, all they have to do is go to the airline counter and simply leave the baggage in the machine. This will save time for them,” an official said.

Only recently, new upgraded inline scanners were installed in the departure hall of international terminal as well. But passengers need to be informed by airline staff is that they should not be carrying liquids or power banks in their check-in baggage. “We see a lot of first-time travellers on domestic flights. They may not be aware of such rules. So far, when passengers were putting in their baggage through the standalone X-Ray machines, the staff would immediately alert them and remove it from the baggage. But now, since it is inline scanners, if passengers don’t know these rules, their baggage might be taken out at the end and they will be called by the staff and they can even miss their flight. So, airline staff must ensure that they warn passengers in advance,” he added.

Officials said they will continue monitoring the machines for a while to check if there are glitches and fix them immediately, in case they emerge.

If you have access to the seatmap through the airline's website you can cross-refer with Seatguru. If not, look for the registrations of aircraft flying on the sector using Flightradar24 and look these up on Planespotters.net which gives the configurations for individual aircraft.

Now at MAA.. On the way to Kandla airport via BOM.. Started from home around 07.00am..08.00am at boarding gate.. 1hr includes taxi, check in, security check. Finally MAA airport has come to 21st century. No more baggage screening at check in. 😁 At security check two lanes had automated tray retrieval system.. It was fast and good. But yet it took 20min to clear security check as I got up in conventional lane. Nevertheless good change at MAA.

5 Screen Multiplex at Chennai Airport from PVR

https://www.thehindu.com/news/cities...le30619677.ece

Not sure whether to welcome this or curse, with so much traffic already and parking chanarges why do we need a mall/muliplex at Airport.

Exactly! This is in spite of the fact that a similar facility (theater cum food court) is on the other side of the road. And coincidentally thats PVR as well!

Nobody cares about these numbers as long as the passenger experience is good! Stop spamming every airport thread with the same question!

Guess few people get orgasm by posting the same question month after month...

this friend's wish is for his favorite airport to retain the better ranking of the 3 airports which is quite understandable...but to ask this question repeatedly is bit too much...

AAI forgets who their customers are - the flyers. This mall will be a curse to the air passengers.

Just a plain dumb move. It’s one thing to have this inside the airport which is unnecessary for non-transit airport like Chennai but another to build a mall which has to rely on outside non-passengers.

Its a good thing. The multiplex is part of the Multi-Level Car Park (MLCP) structure.

Constructing an MLCP results in costs that would otherwise eventually have to be borne by all passengers in the form of a UDF.

Leasing out real-estate inside the structure to private parties is another way of offsetting costs of construction and maintenance, which, btw, is what private operators do on a much larger scale and AAI has just begun to do at its airports around the country.

AAI has finally realised the potential of monetising real estate. It should be welcomed.

The crowd waiting outside the donestic/intl arrival can easily spend time in the mall.
