High-rise gets City Council go-ahead
27.07.2005

THE city’s latest high-rise development is expected to be on sale in late September, with settlement early next year.

Council approved the Kitchener Street proposal last night, with Crs Sue Englart, Regina Albion and Mayor Dianne Thorley still opposed to the two-tower proposal exceeding the eight-storey height recommendation under the town plan.

Developer ERM Property managing director Andrew St Baker heard last night’s chamber debate and welcomed the outcome. The project, initially known as Argle on Kitchener, has undergone a name change to Kitchener St Parklands.

"Toowoomba can expect a landmark building’s design by Australia’s leading architects," Mr St Baker said.

The architects, Planit, this month won the Housing Industry Association Australian Apartment Building of the Year award and the Queensland Master Builders Associa-tion Project of the Year award for a complex at Kangaroo Point.

The 10-storey Argyle apartment building on the southern site will consist of 20 units with rooftop pool and recreation facilities.

The northern building, Beluga, is of nine storeys and on the north-eastern corner will overlook East Creek Park and a water feature.

"This building has been designed with boutique five-star hotel feel and will offer seven large residences," Mr St Baker said.

Six are whole-floor three-bedroom apartments, and the two upper levels will be the penthouse residence.

From what I understand reduced level (RL) doesn't necessarily have to be height above sea level (AHD) - just some predetermined reference point. I'm guessing in Toowoomba RL would mostly be set well above AHD to avoid working with large numbers. Do you know Joe.

Good to see the CBD's first major project of this little boom getting off the ground (well 'under the ground' at the moment)
