620 student bed space site purchased by Unite Student (£48mil).

I wonder where this could be? I have a feeling this could be one of the sites next to Marco Island. I wouldn't expect a planning application submitted until the new year however.

Couple of interesting stories on the evening post

The Gala Bingo building is now almost completely demolished

And Henry Boot Developments has been granted exclusive rights to redevelop the Central Library site

I wonder what the skyline would look like with

East side
Unity Square phase 1 & 2
The Vantage
Crocus Place
4 Arkwright Street
2 Queens Road
Network rail site
Former Shell petrol station (london road)
123 Huntingdon street
York House

Looking at the above pics, it seems only Unity Square & East Side would substantially change the skyline

Nice shots Stig. I love the view from up there. If you get chance to go up there at night, it's even better.

It was taken here circled in red, not sure what the place is called, but you access it via Peveril Drive:

All that's left of the old Horizon factory is one emergency stair case

Some small movement on plans for regenerating one of the uglier stretches of the city centre.

I always wished they'd have done something similar with the arches on the rest of the viaduct before it was demolished

There were plans to do that in the final Westfield scheme.

I'd still love to know why they demolished it in the first place. Looking at old maps from the time of the GCR, it's clear that the alignment of the old viaduct is virtually identical to the new tram viaduct that replaced it.

Surely demolishing it was just unnecessary work and expense. I could understand if it was motivated by a need to modernise (i.e. if it was unsuitable for track gauge / weight capacity etc), but the fact that a portion of the old viaduct is still used to bear the tram alongside Trent St would discount this.
