Any talk about opening the bridge up for more cars? For example, if I wanted to drive my Hong Kong car to Macau, I could just pay the toll and go?

I believe it is a one-stop shop to apply for permits across all jurisdictions. The quotas remain for the bridge though and we haven't heard of any increases lately.

That being said, you cannot drive into Macau even with the proper paperwork. The furthest you can go is the parking lot on the Macau side of the border (on the boundary crossing island).

Cars allowed to travel across Greater Bay Area to boost traffic flow on mega Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge
South China Morning Post Excerpt
Oct 24, 2019

Transport authorities have sought to boost the underused mega bridge connecting Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau by allowing local private vehicles to travel across the Greater Bay Area.

Announcing the scheme on Wednesday, the Transport Department said private cars from Hong Kong and Macau could now travel between the two special administrative regions, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, via eight approved land crossings.

Until now, private cars from Hong Kong have only been allowed to travel between Hong Kong and Guangdong or Hong Kong and Macau, but they could not travel from Macau to Zhuhai.

How is the Shenzhen connection to be made? Particularly without the bridge Tuen Mun - border crossing.

They probably meant the existing roads to Shenzhen from the north side. I recall not all of them allow private cars through.

Technicians guilty of faking test results for Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge costing taxpayer HK$58 million
South China Morning Post Excerpt
Nov 20, 2019

Twelve technicians at a Hong Kong government contractor have been found guilty of faking test reports for a mega bridge that connects the city to Macau and mainland China.

Wednesday’s ruling at the District Court meant all 19 prosecuted laboratory workers from Jacobs China Limited, which was responsible for testing the strength of concrete bricks used in the multi-billion dollar construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, had either pleaded guilty or been convicted in connection with the high-profile fraud case which cost taxpayers HK$58 million.

The defendants, who all pleaded not guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud before District Judge Clement Lee Hing-nin, said they simply followed orders to “correct” test results by altering computer records, and replacing genuine specimen cubes with fakes, and did not believe it was malpractice.

Jacobs China technicians jailed for up to 2 years for faking test results for Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhai Bridge concrete
South China Morning Post Excerpt
Dec 11, 2019

Seven technicians working for a Hong Kong government contractor were sentenced to up to two years in jail on Wednesday for falsifying safety test reports for a mega bridge that links the city to Macau and mainland China.

But the District Court handed down either suspended sentences or community service orders to six other co-defendants, after considering they had relatively little participation in the conspiracy related to the multibillion-dollar construction of the 55km (34-mile) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

The 13 defendants were the last group of laboratory workers from Jacobs China, which was responsible for testing the strength of concrete used in the crossing, to be sentenced over altering computer records and replacing genuine specimen cubes with fakes in compiling the test reports. Five other employees were previously sentenced to up to 32 months in jail following their guilty pleas.
