Byzantine | Art | Architecture

While reading the forums I've realized few people seem to be familiar with the Byzantine art and architecture. Every time they mention some tacky golden domes, I've seen that across the forums for quite awhile. So in this thread it's allowed to post only south European examples of churches and monasteries with preferable terracotta architecture.
SSC it's time for some esotericism.

Okay, it's time for something truly special. This particular monastery had a fire and since it is built on the top of a mountain there was a lot of damage. However after the fire they discovered that in its foundations there is a temple of Apollo, or Artemis (or both). The whole site is currently under construction and renovation. The fire only affected the inns, not the church as far as I know.

Or maybe not, since I'm the only one interested in this particular topic.
Here's another example, the monastery is built in a very small village, it was reconstructed with funds from the EU. Built in the 11th century.

This last one is as idyllic as some Christmas card.

At last, the ruined architectural marvel Hagia Sophia. The epitome of Byzantine architecture, unfortunately, completely ruined. These were the only decent images that I was able to find, images where it actually looks like a church, at least a little bit.

Not sure I would call it completely ruined. Considering what happened it is remarkably intact.

When I said ruined I was referring to the four minarets on each side, they really ruin the overall aesthetics of the church it doesn't even look like Byzantine church because of them. That's why I've tried to find photos where you can't see them, so people could see the Byzantine aspects.

Here are some shots of Istanbul from the 1974 film Murder on the Orient Express. I took the liberty of hiding the minarets of both Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque even though I know the latter was built many years after the fall of Constantinople. Galata Tower and a few other ottoman buildings on the other hand are still visible though. Just in case you wonder how Constantiople could have looked in recent times:

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the effort you've made. It looks so idyllic without the minarets, almost like a fairy tale. One could only wonder how the Hippodrome of Constantinople looked like.

Every time I see a neo-Byzantine church I'm rather indifferent, or not impressed. But that's not the case with the following example. I've seen this one in person and it was just so imposing and the care for details was amazing, also it looks very south European and I really appreciate that too. Adam and Eve are frescoed on the walls. Church St. Holy Trinity in Radovish. This one has some stunning mosaics on the walls, on the floors, all over the place there is grape inspired motifs. You can search google for better photos of the mosaics.

This next example is one of the most respected and most striking examples of the few remaining examples of Byzantine architecture. Now, I know our south neighbors aren't very fond of their northern neighbors (actually they really really don't like us), but since they didn't contribute in this thread I'll share photos of the following church. It was build in the 11th-century during the rule of the Macedonian dynasty in Constantinople. You can see yourself the obvious similarity of the church with some of the genuine churches I've shared from my country previously. Here's one example from our south neighbor.
