The final plan also includes the demolition of the main stand, or not?

In the original plan I believe that it's going to be demolished. I believe the main stand will get some skyboxes as seen on the pictures.
Hope someone can clarify that.

Do attendance figures justify an addition to this stadium though?

Yesterday Betis revealed what else will be new in the 2017/18 season, aside of the south stand. All seats at the stadium are to be replaced and spectator zones will also get improved layout.

Saw Scotland-Brazil in this ground in '82. Just a lad then. Wonderful night afterward, parties in the streets til dawn.

The city is well served with both its main soccer clubs having excellent facilities for fans.

It needs bigger video screens and more and better-distributed floodlights for night matches. At present the lighting is poor.

As a temporary solution it can do. Don't forget the main stand still to have a complete renovation and a roof has to be added over all the stands

What is the distance between the bottom line and the first row of chairs?

Based on the small area line, I calculated at 7.5 mt.

Yes. On the paper, once this new stand is built and it's loan is paid back, if the team is in "Primera", always a big "if" with Real Betis, the club will be in position to rebuild the main stand and then go for the roof.

Once the hideous goalend is refurbished and in line with the rest, it is already a nice place to play football under any condition.
Everything a stadium should be. Fans close at pitch level, nice views from every angle and intimidating for the players.

Yes, this is the completed project:

What I do not understand is why bother to expand the stadium with this attendances (in red rectangles over 45000, undelined over 40000)

It is true two seasons ago was in 2nd Division, but not even Real Madrid, Barcelona or Sevilla's derby las season filled the stadium.

With this phase expansion, this year % attendance will be (34000/57000)=60%

Even if the capacity during the work is reduced (I do not know the number) the attendance figures show that they are incapable of filling the stadium with only three stands (asuming 42k as the total capacity during the works, thre would had been only one sell out during this season).

A wasted structure (which must be anyway maintained) in my opinion

I agree. I dont really understand the continental psyche of having huge stadiums half full. I know there will be an increase in attendence after any renovations. But Betis average around 35,000 for most games. why would they need capacity of 60,000?

They would have been better of knocking the thing down and building something like Espanyol has. Or at least knocking down the main stand and building something with modern facilities in its place

A stadium is more than just how many people it can hold, the existing stand was over 40 years old and outdated, the new stand will give the club new facilities that can generate more income for the club, this include comercial spaces, corporate facilites, parking for visitors and a much better experience for the visitors as the new stand will have proper bathrooms and restauration.

Real Betis has for the last 15 years had season ticket holder numbers between 35 and 43 thousand, depending on the season, this season it is around 41 thousand.

The main stand which is also outdated needs to be demolished and replaced by a new modern one which would have less capacity but with new high standard facilities, bigger and more comfortable seats that can sell for a higher price, room for corporate boxes, comercial spaces, parking garage under the stand, etc.

with better results and players i think that Betis could have better audience .
The current average is respectable , all clubs in Spain that have large stadiums can say that their stadiums are full couple of times a year .
