So you say; but that's what the IOC wants to see and go by. What else can they go by and stay neutral and unbiased as the awarding party?

Even if you fake the results, (i) that would certainly boomerang on your bid and credibility; and (ii) the IOC will have ways to audit suspicious looking polls. As a bidding city wanting their Games, I wouldn't suggest that.

Awarding 2030 to Stockholm would give IOC breathing time and show other candidate cities that it pays off to stay the course.

Shudda-cudda. Why then didn't they do with the Pyeong-Chang and Almaty duel in 2011? The Paris-LA double-awarding of 2 years ago, is different. Those were the two of the best cities that lined up -- both cities have like 95% of the venues in place, conforming a great deal to the Agenda 2020 just starting to get into effect; HIGH level of citizen support in both (I think like 64% for Paris and like 80-83% for LA, very much the support for Milano-Cortina.) You couldn't get let that 1-2 tandem go.

Really, I don't know why I'm bothering to explain this to you.

Every large business in the world conducts polls and relies on them to the tune of trillions of dollars. It would be malfeasance not to require them when you move from the "old boy" driven model of awarding the games to a market demand and public support model. If anything, you might want multiple polls.

Of course, these are "real" polls, not ones worded so as to elicit a particular answer, as is commonly done in politics and such.
