The site would be at the opposite of the Train Station. Currently part of the site is the Inland Container Port that is not use to its max vol due to weak demand.

Railway land in Ipoh for development under TOD model - Loke
Last update: 05/07/2019

Quote:
PUTRAJAYA, July 5 (Bernama) -- A total of 77.51 hectares of land owned by the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) around the Ipoh Railway Station in Perak are to be developed under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the project will be a mixed development and will be realised in 15 years through a joint venture between RAC and Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) of Perak.

“We want to make sure there are business and commercial components besides affordable housing, all of which will be integrated with the Ipoh Railway Station. This is a TOD that is accorded priority by the government,” he told a press conference here today.

Earlier, he witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation on the development of the railway assets in Perak between RAC and MB Inc at the Transport Ministry here. Also present was Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Loke said Perak is among the states with extensive railway land, totalling 2,084.77 hectares.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Faizal said the Perak government plans to build 50,000 units of houses under the Rumah Perakku programme over the next four years and the development project around the Ipoh Railway Station will contribute towards meeting the target.

“In the interest of continuously upgrading Ipoh City, the government is committed to making a success of the TOD to enable Ipoh to continue to compete intensively in terms of the mobility index and the ability to reduce the carbon footprint,” he said.

RAC, Perak MBinc to jointly develop 193.7ha around Ipoh railway station
By Petah Wazzan Iskandar - July 5, 2019 @ 7:56pm

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between RAC and MBinc at the Transport Ministry. Perak MBinc was represented by chief executive officer Anuar Zainal Abidin (2nd left) while RAC was represented by its general manager, Azhar Ahmad.
Quote:
PUTRAJAYA: Railway Assets Corporation (RAC) has entered into a strategic nexus with Perak Menteri Besar Incorporated (Perak MBinc) to create a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) involving assets in the 193.7ha of land around Ipoh’s iconic railway station.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu described the agreement as a win-win solution as it would boost the revenues of both RAC and Perak MBinc.

Faizal said TOD would provide housing, jobs, shopping malls and other amenities.

“Apart from commercial projects, we are also working together to develop affordable housing in transit hubs, with a focus on areas surrounding Ipoh Railway Station,” Faizal told a press conference, here, today.

Earlier, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked between RAC and MBinc at the Transport Ministry. Perak MBinc was represented by chief executive officer Anuar Zainal Abidin while RAC was represented by its general manager, Azhar Ahmad.

The signing was witnessed by Faizal and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

Faizal said the project would help the Perak government to achieve its aim of providing affordable housing under the Rumah Perakku programme.

“The state government is setting its sights on constructing 50,000 units under the Rumah Perakku programme within the next four years.

“The project with RAC will undoubtedly help in achieving the target.”

Loke, meanwhile, said the government was working towards facilitating TOD-linked projects which could optimise the use of public transport.

“The federal and Perak governments have the same vision on the matter.

“Without the state government, we can never initiate development on the land despite it being a railway asset.

“Ipoh has huge potential. We are not setting a high bar because we want to maximise all aspects, including innovations in developing the area in the next 15 years.”

RM5bil project to turn Ipoh railway station into transport hub
Thursday, 10 Oct 2019 8:25 PM MYT By MANJIT KAUR

Quote:
IPOH: A RM5bil integrated development project will be carried out at the Ipoh railway station and its surrounding areas, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the mixed development project would take between 10 and 15 years to be fully completed.

The project on a 78ha land is a joint venture between the state government’s Mentri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) and Railway Assets Corporation (RAC).

“The project includes the development of housing areas, hotels, educational institutions, commercial buildings, as well as green lungs.

“I have had discussions with the Perak Mentri Besar, and we hope to see the development project expedited, ” he told a press conference Thursday (Oct 4).

He was speaking to reporters after Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah launched the ETS2 and the integrated development project at the premises of the railway station.

Present at the event were Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim and Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Loke said the project would be carried out in phases, and both the state and federal governments were committed in making the project a success.

“The important thing is to turn the train station into a transportation hub which connects everyone.

“About 16% of the land area will be allocated for the development of an affordable housing project, ” he added.

In his speech earlier, Loke said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) had plans to increase the Electric Train Service (ETS) to 50 rides per day.

He said the increase in the rides would allow 5.7 million passengers to use the service per year or equivalent to 15,600 passengers per day.

“KTMB is now offering promotions on its tickets for the newly launched ETS2 business class coach until Nov 30, ” he added.

He said in Perak, the ETS passes through 14 stations from Tanjung Malim to Parit Buntar.
