I initially had Tokyo separated out into Tokyo (18 buildings), Yokohama (1 building), and Kawasaki (1 building), but have combined them all under Tokyo (20 buildings). Apparently, I'm missing 1 tower for Tokyo. This is what I have so far:

Looks like Dubai will sprint well in front of both Hong Kong and New York. 33 buildings over 200 m under construction is quite astonishing. I'm still waiting for my city to join that first grouping of 17 cities with at least 10 200 m+ buildings.

We have 6 under construction or under going site preparations and another one imminent, so it's just a matter of time. We might zoom right into a top 10 spot over the next 3 years. About time!

i just went through the skyscraper thread and there are 17(!) 200m+ towers U/C and T/O in panama city, respectively. soon, very soon, this city will make it in the top 6!

Any way you slice it, both countries are doing very well when it comes to 200 m+ buildings. Australia gets contributions from all of her cities over 500,000 except Adelaide and Newcastle, or 5 cities. Canada has 11 cities over 500,000, but only 4 of them have buildings over 200m.

exactly my thoughts. in canada, toronto is doing its job quite well (calgary too) but what's with the other cities? i know vancouver has height restrictions, unfortunately. so there is only one city left ... yes you got it, it's montreal! i mean, did they get let out of the construction boom? all i see is stagnation (in terms of construction)... no wonder australia has it easier with many cities competing each other.

Montréal
If you can believe it, Montreal used to be Canada's skyscraper city. In 1963, Montreal had taller buildings than Chicago. Since then they really haven't built tall due to severe height restrictions. Nothing can be taller than Mont Royal (the hill directly north of downtown), or 223 m. That doesn't leave much chance of landing a tower over 200 m.

Presently, Montreal has only 1 building over 200 m, one that misses the mark by a 1 m, then another 3 between 184 m - 190 m. Montreal builds lots of buildings in the 50 m - 200 m range, but nothing much past that. One positive besides protecting views of Mont Royal is that the downtown core is quite expansive. Despite all of these height restrictions, Montreal does have 2 200 m+ proposals: Silo N5 Tower (200 m+) and Tour Centre-Ville (217 m):

Calgary
Calgary has 2 buildings at 197 m, so the total sits at just Suncor West at 215 m. It will soon to be 3 when The Bow and Eighth Avenue Place top out. All the big towers in Calgary are office, but that looks set to change. I bet we'll start seeing some 200 m condo towers in Calgary pretty soon. Cities reach a point where demand necessitates buildings over 200 m. Calgary is at that tipping point now, so I'm expecting lots of 200 m+ buildings from here on.

Vancouver
Vancouver? All the urban planners and demographers seem to agree that Vancouver has run out of land. Real estate prices are astronomical and they have no option but to start building substantially taller buildings. If Vancouver's population continues growing as it has, we should start to see a flood of 200 m+ buildings popping up all over the downtown core. They won't all be residential either. Planners are alarmed at the dearth of spots to build new office towers. The few spots left will have to be used to maximum benefit. In other words, they're pushing for lots of height.

The Rest
That leaves Ottawa, Edmonton, Quebec City, Winnipeg, Hamilton, Mississauga, and Kitchener-Waterloo. 200 m+ buildings in Mississauga is just a matter of time, but they'll be grouped under Toronto. They're really just a suburb. Ottawa can't build anything taller than the Parliament Buildings, but I wonder if that also applies to Gatineau across the river? The only other plausible city is Hamilton. Proximity to Toronto, and better transit connections to Toronto should result in a population boom there. It will take a while, but Hamilton will mushroom up when it happens.

One interesting possibility beyond these bigger cities is Niagara Falls. It's Canada's only real tourist/casino/resort city. I'm actually surprised that they don't have a 200 m+ tower already.

Summary: it won't be a Toronto show much longer. Calgary has joined the fray, while Vancouver is set to in a very big way. It's really going to be those 3 cities with a few odd buildings in Montreal and perhaps Niagara Falls.

Just for fun I'll go out on a limb and predict the numbers for Canada in 5 years:
Toronto: 26 (8 completed, 6 U/C, 2 Imminent, 10 new projects between now and 2013)
Calgary: 6 (1 completed, 2 U/C, 3 new projects between now and 2013)
Vancouver: 5 (1 completed, 4 new projects between now and 2013)
Montréal: 3 (1 completed, 2 approvals between now and 2013)
Niagara Falls: 1 (1 new project between now and 2013)
CANADA: 41

Infinity can be found here in the World Development News Forums, though we don't update that thread much, so here's the link to the it in OzScrapers Section.

Trilogy is on hold but may start up again soon (website), and Eagle St. Piers have been canned I think.

Thank you for the information regarding Sapphire, Diamond, and the 2 Anthill buildings. I can't include either of the Anthill buildings though. This is an inventory list that measures roof height. Buildings that only attain 200 m or more by sticking an antenna or spire on top are not included.

If you notice, all the buildings listed here have roof heights of 200 m, or more. The tallest building in each city lists the tallest roof height in each. Both Anthill buildings have a roof height of 195 m and a 15 metre antenna stuck on top.

I also need to make a correction for the height of Sapphire from 261 m to 238 m, and the entry for Turkey. On a more positive note, the Diamond of Istanbul will be added once it tops out.
