Further to Jaxxy's post, here's the Wattle street side of Coles. If you squint through the fencing you can see the wall ripped out:

Also, Windsor terraces on High Street have awnings going up out the front. Although this is a garbage photo, you can see that they're giving each of the terraces a different awning (especially the blue building - which is quite decorative). It's a really nice little touch and good attention to detail:

The awnings I mentioned the other day have progressed:

A few days ago:

Today:

I love that they've kept it old school

This is an amazing example of how to restore and integrate heritage buildings into new developments! Well done to the developers and architects, please keep it up!

Metro Tunnel portal works, next to South Yarra station. N.B. That's part of Bruce Henderson's office on the right.

I used to take my dog to that little mound in the distance when it was a park of sorts.

Yes, it was a nice little island of relative serenity.

It'll eventually be reinstated and expanded.

These are just quick snaps while I was on my way to the market. They've closed off the stairwell to the Woolies roof, so it might be a while before I can get more of my usual "from high" pics.

Looking in from the South East corner:

Peeking into through one of the side portals outside Coles:

Painting starting on the outside. One of my fears for this project has been around whether the perimeter will be a dead zone devoid of activation. I'm hoping their strategy isn't to rely on painting concrete bright colours to liven it up...

Not the clearest of pics, but this is one of the sections where you can see down into the carpark below (I'm not sure if this is where a travelator will be going...?)

Paving on the north-east corner:

Also, received a flyer through the mail that they've narrowed the naming of the Square down to two options: Cato Square or Prahran Square. Not the most imaginative of names, but I'm hoping Cato stays.

Also, terrible pics, but here's the entrance to the Coles from the square side:

You get a small peak into the rennos through the door:

Whoever's responsible should be out of a job if that turns out to be the case. It's been a concern of mine since the very first renders.

Small update on the Prince's Garden upgrades:

A single, straight path now runs between Malvern rd and the housing estate at Princes close:

So far the upgrades basically extend to about 2 metres on either side of the path, which feels kinda off, but the new trees and new benches look good.

This "two metre" approach looks particularly odd where it connects with existing paths:

Few updates re: Cato sq, Woolies, and Coles:

Cato Square. From the south side today. The crispness of the white is looking good IRL:

I've never seen renders of the south side, but there's a surprising amount of space on the street side of the rise with what looks like biiig, deep plantaboxes. There might be a significant amount of greenery here I wasn't expecting:

From the east side. Most of the road is ripped up still, but this eastern side seems to be the "most complete" under the rise. Here's one of the carpark portals:

North-east corner. It's looking good, and I like the stone paving waaaaaay better than the 80s inspired red brick on the north-west side. Originally I was hoping the blue poles might still get another coat of paint in a less garish colour, but considering they match some of the paint under the rises, I'm now not so sure...

Over at the Woolies, there's a significant amount of external change happening. It looks like they've demolished the Eastern stairs and lift to the roof (which is good, they were stupid narrow and clanky). There's a new awning with, what I'm sure will be, a lightbox:

Most surprising is that the hoardings of the Coles are already down! They've wasted no time.

From Wattle Street:

(Note the pressed awning)

They've moved the entrance to the corner of the block, with the Chapel St side just glass:

The corner entrance seems oddly small to be the major entrance of a supermarket and Bottle-o...

4248 seems to have cleared out the sludge.

Esque, opposite the Vogue Plaza, is finally getting a bit of height. Heading for 20L. N.B. Woolworths Prahran has opened, after the reno.
