Thanks for the pics, Oriolus84! And welcome to our little city—I think it’s a rather nice place.

I’m happy with how the hospital redevelopment has turned out—bold, but benefits Hobart more than I though it would. The next stage of the masterplan is meant to be unveiled this week or next—we’ll see what the non-promises are. The decrepit looking buildings facing Collins/the rivulet are meant to be the next to be pulled down and rebuilt (Hobart Private excepted). I hope for consistency’s sake they stick with Lyons as the architects.

Master plan 2020-2050 released. Here's the link

No commitment to plan with only $91 over next three years. K block will need to be replaced by 2050!! Should have built a new hospital.

The main intentions being:

Sub-acute and mental health functions be relocated to a new RHH building on the Repatriatiom Hospital site, on Davey St; and then

A staged demolition and rebuild of the remainder of the city buildings, starting with the Collins St/rivulet facing blocks, as in the old masterplan.

Clearly a sensible set of ideas. Will cost a fortune though—easily $200m for the repat, and $300m+ for the new L block. No wonder it might take 30 years!

Repat sub-acute/mental health hospital:

L block, fronting Campbell and Collins:

Oh well by the time it is all finished I will be close to being dead from old age so will probably get a chance to see them from the inside...

Mm, well, a press release from the govt today says that it’ll be a “seven year build” at the Repat, starting who knows when.
