I must admit I was disappointed when this one opened. While it was lovely decor it didn't have quite the cosy atmosphere of the old one. Also agree with all those stairs and fire trap. The old place had stairs too but not as many.

Wonder what will happen in place of the new one?

I imagine a new restaurateur/bar operator will snap it up fairly quickly.

The footbridge is planned for a different area of Toowong.

If you want planning, acknowledge what's already planned. Ignoring existing planning is expensive and counter productive.
If it's zoned parkland, why would you acquire it for a new park? Inevitably as our cities grow in population (per km) there will be a greater need to provide more green space. Ideally that would be provided as part of rezoning industrial or other sites with potential for urban renewal. That might not always be possible.

And on your last point "ignoring planning is expensive and counter productive" - you're right, just ask Sunland.

It happens. Private land zoned for Parkland still requires council to buy it. However it's bought at a lower cost.

The new park on Railway Terrace in Milton is like this.

Sunland want ignoring planning. For starters they were proposing less flies and more open space than required in the plan. It was just the height that was the problem. The height was because of the lower site coverage.

Zipline still on rocky waters, economic benefits may be far lower than we think

Be good to have a Gondola (Sky rail) integrated into the Go Card from the Botanical Gardens stopping at the cafe lookout and continuing further up to the Western lookout. Comparable short Gondala systems can be found in Portland OR. (Aerial Tram) Very succesful! This would reduce the unneeded vehicle traffic up and down Mount Cootha while increasing sustainable tourism in the area.
