What a complete and utter waste of money and opportunity but then again McGowan and co are hardly proactive or big vision types.

Accurate.

Also looking more and more likely MEL will terminate as Bayswater.

Yeah well McGowan seems to like to water down projects and take the cheapest option doesn't he?

Why would the opposition lobby the government over this? They criticised the freeway option as being too expensive let alone a tunnel.

The only way the tunnel is going to get up in the short term is if the Feds want to pork-barrel it.

Manning Road off ramp. Twice a week I walk from Canning Bridge Station to Salter Point crossing at Lockhart/Manning Roads at the Tavern. Next crossing is at Ley Street and you would need to take a long loop back.

And to be honest I've never seen another pedestrian in this middle bogan area. This could change with high rises planned for Canning Parade.

Response from Main Roads.
“Thank you for your email enquiry related to pedestrian access at Lockhart Street in Como as part of the construction of the new southbound on-ramp from Manning Road to Kwinana Freeway.

The existing break in the barrier on Manning Road adjacent to Lockhart Street will close as part of the project works however, the timing isn't confirmed at the moment. Pedestrian crossing facilities will be provided further along Manning Road at Clydesdale Street, as there will be a solid concrete barrier dividing traffic on Manning Road up to this point.

There is future provision for a pedestrian overpass adjacent to Lockhart Street, however, this in not part of the current project scope.”

Essentially, they are picking the quickest and cheapest route that is a railway to fulfil their election promise. If the cost-benefit-analysis was to say a bus or the tunnel were the preferred option, too bad as they don’t help achieve an election pledged to reign in debt, and to build a railway to ellenbrook quickly, regardless of proper long term planning.
