You'd better duck and try to dodge the wrecking ball then mate

I think 'demolition' or 'preparation' would be slightly more appropriate in the title... Probably the latter over the former so as not to give the impression we're demolishing 122 Leadenhall!

British Land announced they will start enabling works around Christmas for a period of 60 weeks.

Enabling works include demolition of the existing structure, construction of basement and sub-structure. Demolition consists of 32 stages. At stage 12, piling will start but the existing building will not yet be demolished.

etc. ...

Now Stage 12:

Construction - as defined by piling, etc. - will start during demolition.

Now if you want to start the construction thread after the construction of the basement and substructure, or, who knows, after the core has topped out, it is ok for me.

I was in the square opposite the Lloyds building the other day ( can''t remember it's name) - Wow! It's already a great place - Lloyds, Willis, Swiss Re - the other tall brown block - Very handsome I think. Add Leadenhall to the mix and it will be truely an awe inspiring place! ( shame it is marred by a dreadful post modern monstrosity next to the church - but I suppose nothing is ever perfect)

It looks like they're trying to keep the existing building in use for as long as possible... access will be via catapult from the street, egress by jumping off the roof onto matresses.

I'm not sure weather to or !!!!

Becuase, some people are saying the building is still in use.

However, I believe construction starts from the start! From the demolition of the exisitng building. An official construction thread was created when 51 Lime Street was being demolished.
It's a bit like sex. I think, if a couple is planning, the baby is officially introduced at the point of intercourse.

Anywhoo, if it is an official thread, then WHOOHOO!

I'll get pictures tomarow

yes but this stage is just before you get the erection. I'm not really too fussed because i know that its not actually under construction official...its jus the poor little new comers are going to get so confused and we're going to get tired of having to say every 20 posts or so..."technically its not under construction yet its just demolishion of the existing building".

I maintain that part of the old structure is being incorporated into the new, ie, the atrium structure, which may make a difference to the situation (see earlier in the old thread)

The doors to the old M+S at ground level were open and they were clearing stuff out from there when I went past tonight. But we're a long, long, long way from actual demolition of the structure.

I think people on here need to stop being so hasty.

All true but McGee is on site and has started. It is not just stripping out but also prep works; they are pumping muddy water out of the basement which I assume has to do with test drilling.

For people like myself who doubted the real intentions of British Land, certainly now it has become increasingly likely we see (1) BLT, (2) Heron, (3) Bischopsgate and (4) Riverside South all going up at the same time, together with a lot of groundscrapers and some mid-rises, this is the ultimate proof they are serious about it and are going ahead. So (5) Leadenhall. My god, this forum is going to be busy!
