I have to say, looking at Crown, it looks incredible and whilst it has a pretty tall height by Australian standards, I'd rather it was 500m tall, cos it's a terrific design and location. All the same, good they built it regardless and even at the current height it's the best skyscraper to happen to Sydney since, well, since the beginning of time. So I guess I'm saying, nice stuff.

^best skyscraper in Sydney? um yeh, i think Australia.
whats its rivals?
when its finished put a poll up with 10 of our best skyscrapers in international section and i reckon who will win.
no doubt it will win many awards after completion.
2bil$ well spent
as for height- yeh well 500m not gonna happen anywhere in Aus.
lucky to get 300m these days
sydneys time will come and could even be a new Aus tallest.
Crown is at egde of harbour so lucky to get away with 275m really. was 250m for a while and even originally 213m.
im happy with 275m. magnificent design which is the more important issue and its superior location.

^dont worry many more tallies coming. our skyline will always be a world beater because we have the harbour. check mate.
remember lots of tall buildings dont make a great skyline.look at dubai. compared to NYC
its the quality of skyscrapers that counts, which i m sure sydney has.

Come on Cul, we all know that Sydney Harbour is a stunning natural setting, but there are plenty built skylines in the world that look impressive regardless of its natural setting... and Melbourne skyline is one of them!

Proposals & Construction: 250m-299m skyscrapers

There are some very impressive buildings in Melbourne just getting underway. Melbourne will be the skyscraper capital for at least the next decade for sure. Melbourne should have over 30 over 200m in a few years.
Driving back from Horsham last week and that first view of the Melbourne skyline from (god knows how many km away) is just a WOW.

The Barangaroo Triplets are poor, impressive size and girth, but not a patch on Quay Quarter (or our own Wesley Place). The more I see them, the more they suck.

The equivalent here in Melbourne to Barangaroo is Collins Square, which is equally souless. Far less height, so lost in shuffle somewhat.

Crown is outstanding.
The Renzo Piano towers will be awesome.
Barangaroo triplets, meh.

That's why I find the office towers vs anything-else debate laughable. Most recent office towers are plain and boring (CQ, 477 Collins, Baragaroo, Collins Square, etc etc). The best resis like Crown blow away all office towers.

gawd, you have no idea about barangaroo and how its works and planned out. the 3 office towers are brilliant designs and cater for 300000sqm of space for sydney.there are built for a big city.its all part of a plan with a dozen highrise throughout the 22 hectare barangaroo precicnt. thats not counting Central which isnt planned yet.
make sure you visit next time in sydney and walk around the towers. thare are so big they have there own streets.

I must say that I like those three office towers...they are very heavy and dominant on the skyline and have got that modern industrial look to it...like some kind of modern glass and metal silos...but that is just me...I would have to walk around them to really get the feel of those towers against the rest of skyline, particularly Barangaroo development... I still like to think.of them as Sydney's city version of Three Sisters...maybe these are just 'voluptous' Greek sisters and their names are Soula, Toula and Voula (STV Building)...LOL
