Some fancy editing going on here but needs one more adjustment:
sharehose? A communal watering system?

As for petitions from locals, I've seen how the zealots stack the numbers with exaggerated lies and bullying people to sign. Signatures are rarely spontaneous nor from people actively involved or who give a damn about the issue let alone know it fully. Just sign to get rid of the pest.

Not as convincing as Greta Thunberg. They can't claim that their childhood was destroyed

Regarding the GSC findings for the Western Harbour precinct, I decided to analyse the public submissions made and thought I would share my insights with SSC members.

Quantitative
(Key: A = Against, F = For, U = Unsure, T = Total)
212 individual responses were submitted by my own count.
17% of total respondents are for planning changes. (A=173, F=36, U=3, T=212)
11% of respondents who identified as local residents* are for planning changes (A=133, F=17, U = 2, T = 152)
12% of respondents who identified as local residents and with a Pyrmont, Glebe or Ultimo postcode are for any planning changes. (A=114, F=15, U=0, T=129)
15% of respondents who identified as Greater Sydney residents are for planning change. (A=17, F=3, U=0, T=20)
37% of people who identified as being employed locally are for any planning changes (A=5, F=3, U=0, T=8)
55% of respondents who identified as representing a local professional, social or business group are for any planning changes (A=9, F = 11, U=0, T=20)

Insight from the “Against” comments
- I found the “against” responses largely emotive and based on a perceived detrimental personal impact.
- The fear/loathing of tall buildings is very big in this response sample.
- A couple of responses even wrote “Won’t someone think of the children?”
- Not surprisingly, many conflated the purpose of the review with the strong push to overturn the IPC recommendation related only to the Star City proposal
- Some comments suggested that the timeframe allowed for the review was way too short and the rushed nature in how this review was stood up indicates that the decision really has already been made.
- A number of themes emerged in the against camp from the response which included:
o The decision to move the Powerhouse Museum is wrong.
o A long term lease of a wharf to a “party boat operator” should never have been allowed.
o The review being flawed as it does not include Glebe Island and specifically the decision to re-industrialise it with a cement factory. No cement factory and more open land and clean air for the residents.
o Questions around the current fish market site and that it should not be filled with more apartment buildings once the new one opens. Others did not want the smell from the FM to impact them.

Choice responses:
“If you want Manhattan go there”
“We don’t need more monstrous towers. Please leave monstrous towers in the CBD where they fit in”
“The Ritz Carlton is attractive in any other setting but it sticks out like the proverbial (here)…”
“I’m all for high rises but not this monstrosity that will destroy our village way of life”
“What is NOT appropriate is to allow a massively tall tower to rise above the Star Casino and pollute the visual environment and destroy the social environment of the Pyrmont Peninsula. We already have Packers Prick polluting the other side.”
'It’s high time the hideous Harbourside SC was demolished to make way for a public open space”
“No to any building that goes against the previously set standard that erode the inner city village sanctuary these areas provide”

And the award for my favourite response goes to the Inner West Council submission:

“Balmain peninsula vistas and views of the city need to be preserved by providing a layered or stepped height restriction.”

I still find it funny to this day that people (be it residents, rent a crowd or serial nimbys) are actually referring to Pyrmont as a village. Pyrmont hasn't been a village since before we got the rail yards in.

It's the Clover Effect. She's the one that started this twee 'City of Villages' nonsense as it appeals to her voter base in the inner suburbs.

From the western side of Blackwattle Bay on Sunday. From this angle I believe the tower would roughly rise just to the left of Crown.
