This was more a question of "when" than "if", but Qatar Airways have decided to upgrade its Copenhagen routes to a daily Airbus A330, instead of the previous 4-weekly A319.

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/58922...rger-aircraft-

QR is going big in CPH, with 13 permanent dedicated staff at the airport, handling everything apart from baggage handling etc. Most other airline just outsource their ground operations.

Time for Emirates to finally make a move?

Great news. Had no idea it was such a big hit. Any idea of who mainly uses it? Turists or business people? Or perhaps a mix...?

Well, I believe the upgrade was planned from the beginning. The ground staff have been in place since they started the route, and it would not make sense to have such a big ground crew for a 4-weekly Airbus A319.

Qatar Airways have brilliant connections from Doha to large parts of the Middle East, Africa as well as Asia and Australia. I believe most passengers originating from CPH are going to these places. And in the other direction it is mostly people from the Middle East/Asia (Pakistan, Iran, Iraq etc.) visiting family in Scandinavia.

In any case, great news for CPH which has seen a lot of new intercontinental route announcements as of late, despite the recession.

Copenhagen Airport back on growth track
Passenger numbers at Copenhagen Airport grew by 11.9% year on year in May. This brought travel patterns back to the level of before the ash cloud paralysed European airspace for six days in April. The year-to-date increase in passenger numbers was 4.8%.

A total of 1,897,202 passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in May, reflecting an increase of about 200,000 passengers or 11.9% as compared with the same month of last year.

"We recorded growth across the board in May, and Copenhagen Airport is among the major European airports that have recorded the highest growth rates in 2010. In particular, it has been interesting to note the growth on a number of the intercontinental services both to North America and Asia, which contributes to underlining the position of Copenhagen Airport as a northern European traffic hub," said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales for Copenhagen Airports.

The growth on Danish domestic services also continued, and the number of domestic passengers increased by 29,7% year on year. The number of international passengers grew by 10.0%, whilst transfer passengers grew by 12,2%.

Ryanair, EasyJet, Germanwings, Transavia, Air Berlin, Wizz Air, NIKI, Cimber Sterling and Norwegian have all expressed interest in using the new LCC terminal at CPH once it opens in October. Ryanair wants to serve 23 destinations initially.

Ryan Air vill lyfta från Köpenhamn

Text: Andreas Mattsson
Uppdaterad 18 juni 2010 18.36 Publicerad 18 juni 2010 18.28

SAS are reinstating one of their two grounded A340s into operation in order to boost capacity on current long haul routes. This is a very pleasing development in my opinion.

Good to hear. Although, I'm still of the opinion that SAS would be better off in the hands of Lufthansa, I guess..

CPH numbers up:

Strong passenger growth kicks off the summer season

Passenger numbers at Copenhagen Airport during the first month of the summer were 9.3% higher than in the same month of last year. A total of 2,091,952 passengers flew either into or out of Copenhagen Airport in June, which were only 5,000 fewer than the record set in the summer of 2008.

178,689 more passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport than during the same month of 2009. This represented a 9.3% increase, bringing the summer traffic off to a good start. An increase was seen in the number of departing international passengers and transfer passengers, and domestic traffic continued its strong growth; the year-on-year growth rate for June being 23.3%.

“June traffic gave us a good start to the summer, and our forecasts indicate that growth should continue in the months to come. Whilst it is too early to say whether we can reach the record level of the summer of 2008, these figures highlights the continued attractiveness of Copenhagen as a destination” said Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales, for Copenhagen Airport.

During the first six months of the year, a total of 9,908,436 passed through Copenhagen Airport, and the year-to-date increase in passenger numbers was 5.7% higher than in 2009

Yeah, but they were only talking about possibly having a better summer... The ash cloud has already made it close to impossible to beat the whole year of 2008.
