Comesa Shopping Mall | Eastleigh | U/C

Yesterday I happened to pass in Eastleigh and noticed a huge excavation exercise on a site along General Waruinge. I did a bit of digging on the net and got some news on it at this Somali news website. Most of the news is in Somali (hopefully one of the Somali speakers here can translate key details for us). The few details I managed to get are:
  • It's a 3-level mall
  • Has about 1,000 shops
  • Large food court
  • Parking seems small for the size of field I saw being excavated (the guy says 100 cars)
  • It is expected to be completed by end of this year (2015)

Below are some renders I picked from the video:

And, General Waruinge road below:

It's looks good. And it should take most of the traders off the street and into the mall so that there's some sanity in the streets of Eastleigh.

What are the odds, we passed through General Waruinge this morning to avoid Jogoo Road Traffic, and the site is indeed humongous

On the topic of malls. Could this mall be the actually realization of the other Eastleigh mall. https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1243229

Because the Indian guy in the blue shirt said it will have 700 hundred parking spaces and my mind remembered about the mall in the link.

The thread should be merged together.

My former classmate is doing the structural design of this project. I could ask him for a copy.

An Eastleigh Mall exists but looks nothing like the renders you refer to. To see how it looks, check here.

The original developers were Eng. Adnan Saffarini Office - Kenya ARCHITECTS & ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS.

Not sure if it has changed.

Interesting.....
How many malls do we have in Nairobi now...50???
May be it is true the saying 'any publicity is good publicity'.
Westgate tragedy may have opened eyes to investors around the world.
They went .."Holy craxxx, they have Malls in Africa? "

Now they are coming in droves with all kinds of crazy ideas. Some will survive and some will die.

Nairobi should have more than 25! I dont know where you place the supermarkets though! In Thika, we consider Tuskies and Maathai major shopping malls. Where is the cut?

Depends on their definition of mall. If they only consider classy things like We state, Sarit, Junction as malls then they're right but if they include all the smaller ones (like Nakumatt downtown) then Nairobi has numerous.

25 malls for one city like nairobi is getting a bit saturated IMO.
