There's mention of increasing the number of aircraft stands, (which I take to be effectively parking bays), but see no mention anywhere, despite steadily increasing passenger numbers of any new actual external terminal expansion or a revival of the pre 9/11 satellite terminal and new airbridges?
Pre 9/11 passenger numbers were half what they are now, yes the international pier was built, but surely the terminal's overall capacity cannot cope with (as forecast) near 20m during 15 year masterplan period?
Overall, I think it seems quite "unambitious" and fails to replicate the booming growth underway in Birmingham itself.

The plan includes a 40% increase in the size of the departures terminal, expanded security & passport control and expanded arrivals facilities including new baggage reclaim belts. I do think the airport management are being realistic if a little unambitious maybe because of the doubt that's gathering over HS2 which would be the biggest driver of growth at the airport at the end of the next decade.

The plan is very blunt about the airport being unable to grow beyond the 2033 / 20m PAX expectation within it's current footprint.

It really wouldn't suprise me if the downscaled plans for BHX are linked to the rumours of a new terminal and runway at Lower Packington.

This terminal would be closer to HS2, easily connected to all the other UK central facilities (including BHX for connections) and with better road access. A new runway without space restriction could take all the long haul flights from BHX and add many more, leaving BHX as a domestic and short haul 'city' airport.

What another Airport on the M42 halfway between BHX and EMA? Sounds unlikley, regardless of how close to HS2 it is, and Interchange station will be connected to BHX terminals via a new monorail system

No a new BHX terminal running almost parallel to the A452 between the M42 and M6. Within a mile of Middle Bickenhill HS2 interchange station

Oh OK, apologies for that. I thought that Lower Packington was near Ashby. There must be another one.

Edited.

Ahh, Little Packington, not Lower. That makes more sense lol

For sense of scale of the expansion underway

Thanks for sharing, the two sets of diagrams show the scale of the expansion that is now underway. Effectively filling in the current gap between the departure lounge and peer with what looks like a 5 story structure? It certainly looks higher than the rest of the building in that area so should give some observation areas of that side of the airport apron.

This can't come too soon. Even the departure lounge is now struggling because it's gotten so busy.
