True but you said double the floors :p that would mean at least 120m if this building is 60. Gosh I'd be happy with a 100 for this building but that'd make it taller than alpha. higher land and dat ennit bruv.

In the renders, it actually looks slightly shorter than Alpha Tower, will probably be around 95 metres tall - hopefully taller!

Massive news for Arena Central!!!

HSBC moves its UK bank headquarters to Birmingham

In Birmingham's biggest inward investment deal for a generation, Britain's biggest bank is relocating its UK operation to Arena Central

http://www.birminghampost.co.uk/busi...arters-8909759

HSBC is in advanced negotiations to conclude the acquisition of a 250 year lease on a new office comprising 210,000 sq ft at Arena Central. Arena Central is part of Birmingham’s Enterprise Zone within the city centre. It is anticipated that development of the site will start by June 2015.

This might yet be the 'trigger' that sets off a swathe of HQ moves. No-one wants to go first, after all.

Amazing news for Brum. Chuffed to bits.

Good on Osborne and Balls for both saying positive things about the move too and not trying to pander to the london voter with concilliatory words.

Good news... However, i thought we already had the personal and business banking in the city? I'm sure my friend works for the personal banking sections and another friend use to work for the business section which was at King Edward House until they moved to Hagley Road.

Wow that is brilliant news, but can someone help me, for a person who understands very little about the workings of big business, what would be their reasons behind a move to Birmingham?? confidence in the city? location? cheaper rent? or all of the above?

Also...... how good would it be if they used the old bank building on Broad Street as an entrance into the wider HSBC complex. Just a thought.

From the FT:
Quote:
HSBC has announced it is leaving London. Well, the UK part of the bank is.

The ring-fenced entity being set up to house the bank's British operations will be based in a new headquarters to be built in Birmingham, it said on Tuesday, reports Martin Arnold, banking editor.

All large UK banks are being forced to hive off their UK operations into a ring-fenced unit with separate funding, leadership and oversight from the rest of their activities under a new law designed to avert the risk of another financial crisis.

However, HSBC is the first bank to officially declare where its new ring-fenced domestic bank will be based.

The bank said about 1,000 head office roles would move from London to Birmingham by 2019, when the ring-fencing law comes into force.

It is in talks to secure a lease on a new 210,000 sq ft office to be built in the city's Arena Central enterprise zone.

I wonder if we'll see anymore come to the city. Maybe Arena 3 will attract more, especially with Deutsche Bank being across the road. Could be a bit of a financial district.

Let's just keep this here for memories.

This is great news, and for once a good result from an effective government policy. Separating the banking and investment arms of banks forces them to set up new offices to house one or the other. The regions, and particularly Birmingham, should benefit.

Also, I'm sure HSBC will take no shit about the internal and exterior quality of the office they wish to occupy.

Well done Brum! Big businesses are finally opening their eyes and seeing that the future lay outside of the capital. Hopefully this will generate jobs for Brummies rather than just shipping up the London yuppies lol!
