INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR SPORTS INNOVATION IN THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT “THE RING”
CACERES, SPAIN
Architect: José Maria Sánchez García

The project develops a program of technical sports centre (R & D) about sports related to nature. The site lies on a thickly wooded peninsula in the Gabriel y Galán reservoir in Cáceres. The place is subject to periodic variation of the water level. Therefore, the location of the building is set from a certain height. (+info)

La Fabrica
Sant Just Desvern; Barcelona
Ricardo Bofill

The conversion of the factory into the studio began with a process of destruction, demolishing numerous elements and structures of the former industrial plant, revealing previous hidden forms, like a work of sculpture in concrete.
Eight silos remained, which became offices, a models laboratory, archives, a library, a projections room and a gigantic space known as "The Cathedral", used for exhibitions, concerts and a whole range of cultural functions linked to the professional activities of the architect. -

Within the spaces defined, cleared of concrete and surrounded by a new landscape setting, the next step was to invent a new program for the use of these spaces, in a total practical negation of functionalism: in this case, the function did not create the form; instead it has been shown that any space can be allocated whatever use the architect chooses.

The renovation project incorporated various architectural languages; Catalan Civic Gothic style and surrealist elements paying homage to the building’s industrial past, cohabit with high-tech furniture within comfortable lofty spaces.

Today “La Fábrica” provides a privileged working environment, generous office and open plan studio space, secluded meeting area and a private residence for Ricardo Bofill in the midst of lush gardens. -
