It's normal that rents increase, Manchester life tenants shouldn't get special treatment. People will just get wound up as it's council owned, and people are getting more agitated by Manchester's link with Abu Dhabi.

I thought these new PRS developments were supposed to be different. No charges upon charges for every little thing the owners can get away with, long contracts if wanted, stable prices etc etc. This is especially bad being part owned by the council.

It's more to do with the mis-use of Section 21. Given the Labour party policy is to abolish S21 notices, the fact that one of their joint ventures are using them when they don't need to is poor.

Itís not about the rent increase itself, itís the aggressive approach thatís been used. All tenants have received a very formal/scary eviction notice warning them that if they donít sign up to renew at an increased price, theyíll be evicted. I was a city centre tenant of a letting agent for years before buying my place. We had letters informing us of annual rent increase notices but we were never treated badly like this.

I fully agree with AncoatsLass. Conventionally the letting agent would email the tenant and ask what they want to do. Once the tenant has decided (an illusion of control here perhaps) or time ran out, it would be followed by the formal notice. I got section 21s a few times when renting. It's horrible.

Manchester Life appear to be issuing batch notices, so asking each tenant would probably have taken considerable resource and extra time that they may not have. That may explain their actions.

Still massively sucks for the residents, but renting sucks in this country anyway and needs continual reform, not funky landlords who like to show what cool guys they are.

On a beautiful day, Ancoats looks lovely

On a miserable day, less so.

Whoever thought a white-painted facade on those NQ4 buildings was a good idea

Renaker's NQ building is further along Bengal Street.

Yes I was wrong to say NQ4. Although I notice it is the same style. I wonder how these buildings will look after 20 years of Manchester weather and maintenance neglected...

I'm by no means a fan of white rendered exteriors but Renaker's is holding up surprisingly well considering the amount of construction activity and airborne dust/dirt over the last few years.

Passed the boarded up pub the Shamrock today. The demolition of the surrounding buildings has started. Apparently Holts have bought the pub. Look forward to it opening.

And they already have plans to open more pubs next year, including The Shamrock in Ancoats and the Bridgewater Exchange, which will be the UKís biggest pub and Europeís first airside microbrewery in Manchester airportís new terminal building.

I'm not normally a lover of dogs at all, but occasionally I meet a lovely one.
Was sitting in a coffee shop/bar in Ancoats today, and when I looked up from my camera I noticed a little 'sausage' type dog was sat down on my seat, right beside me. Little companion. His name is Frank, apparently. Gorgeous dog.
