Azkals slip past Turkmenistan, 1-0, to top group

On to Maldives.

The Philippine Azkals once again recorded a first in local football history, beating Turkmenistan, 1-nil, to top Group E of the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

Phil Younghusband again provided the marginal goal for the Azkals, finding the back of the net in the 68th minute to put the Philippines through to the Challenge Cup group stage next year in Maldives.
It marks the first time a Philippine side has beaten Turkmenistan, and it avenged a 2-1 loss in last year’s Challenge Cup in Nepal.

That means the official 8 teams of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup are as follows:

Myanmar - Group A winner
Kyrgyzstan - Group B winner
Afghanistan - Group C winner
Palestine - Group D winner
Philippines - Group E winner
Laos - Best runner-up

Friendlies eyed for Azkals' Maldives drive
By Olmin Leyba, The Philippine Star

Quote:
Weiss said three international friendlies are being eyed in June – a road match against Hong Kong and home matches in Cebu and Luzon, with Asean rivals Thailand and Vietnam and Middle East sides UAE and Syria as possible opponents.

The German mentor wants a training camp in the US by August and more friendlies in September and October as part of their buildup for the eight-nation Challenge Cup, the next step in their ambitious bid to break into the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

Philippines drop points from 208 to 200.. it may drop on ranking also.. but if Luxembourg fail to win against North Ireland and Russia, Philippines will stay on Rank 141.. but if Luxembourg gets atleast a draw, Philippines will drop to Rank 142 because St. Lucia will overtake Philippines for the next ranking..

Azkals find ray of hope with new Challenge Cup sked
Quote:
The 2014 AFC Challenge Cup in the Maldives—the Philippines’ only chance of qualifying for the Asian Cup in 2015—has been moved from March to the third week of May, giving the Azkals a chance to field their strongest possible lineup.

While the Asian Football Confederation has yet to announce the change in dates, Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta told the Inquirer yesterday that the AFC Competitions Committee had already approved the PFF’s request to move the tournament, where the champion will earn a ticket to the Asian Cup in 2015 in Australia.

PHILIPPINES retains Rank #141 even after loss.

On the next Ranking for September 2013.
The Philippines will get 223 from 200

That means the Philippines will get Rank #136
but it depends on other games

If Hong Kong wins against UAE, means (-1)
If Malta draws any of 2 games, means another (-1)
If Thailand wins against Iran, means another (-1)
If Vietnam wins against Uzbekistan, means (-1)
If Liechtenstein wins any of 2 games or draws both games, means (-1)
If Cyprus losts 2 games or draws only 1 game, means (+1)
If Kazakhstan losts 2 games, means (+1)
If Moldova losts 2 games, means (+1)

India could host Philippines in two international friendlies in November
Quote:

The Indian national team could take on the Philippines in a couple of international friendlies in November, Sportskeeda can reveal.

India won’t be in action in October but with a couple of FIFA dates available in November, the AIFF are eager to arrange two friendly matches for Wim Koevermans’ side and have also kept no I-League matches between November 9 and 23.
