Yes great to see the city centre redevelopment work moving forward. When this redevelopment work along the north side of the Wear is complete it will make Durham an even better place to visit. The new cinema is overdue and the new bars, restaurants, shops and accommodation should make Durham a highly attractive place to live and invest.

I think it's been a great place to live and invest for a long long time, hence why house prices are so steep compared to the NE average! The Everyman boutique cinema on new development adjacent will also add competition but to be honest the two huge developments just commencing show how Durham attractive to investment Durham is in comparison to Sunderland

Yes have to agree imo Durham is the best place to live and visit in the North East. When I have visitors or need to entertain friend or clients I go to Durham. I have had many really good nights out in Durham and now the food offering has improved and will get even better with the new development I am anticipating many more good nights out.
Not to sure about Sunderland night life can't say I been out in the city centre for many years.

The changing face of Durham - why the city will soon be the place to be

From Chronicle Live website on 16/04/17

EXTRACTS

Durham is set to shed its reputation as a sleepy Cathedral city with £195m of leisure developments

CGIs of how the Riverwalk development will look (Photo: Milburngate)

Walking through Durham you can’t fail to notice the changing face of the city.

Gone are the concrete offices of the former passport office and the dated Gates shopping precinct which lined the river wear.

Although demolition work is ongoing the eyesore sights are set to be transformed into ultra-trendy leisure destinations.

With two cinemas, half a dozen bars and restaurants announced, the riverside area will be transformed by 2019.

Three major projects across the city represent a whopping £195m of investment.

- Just on the other side of the A690 the former Gates shopping centre off North Road is set to be re-built with a new cinema and restaurants and relaunched as Riverwalk at a cost of £30m.
