^ So why does it have stations within the city of Toronto on the map (McNicoll, Seneca Hill, Keele-Finch)?

Very neat, great system, i loved the ticketing stations.
BTW is very alike to Transmilenio here in Bogotá, and the new systems being placed in all major cities in Colombia.

On the other hand, you cannot board Viva/YRT south of Steeles. Same thing apples on Mississauga Transit east of the Etobicoke/Mississauga boundary. |

Suburban Transit in Toronto - VIVA & York Region Transit
VIVA is the new branding for several suburban transit routes north of Toronto. Opened in 2005, it features Belgian Van Hool buses making limited stops along several key corridors in York Region. Stops have display screens showing arrival times in real-time, while passengers can purchase and validate tickets directly at the stop, and not need to show the driver when boarding. The second and third phases will be built as part of the 20-year transit expansion plan. In the 2nd phase, dedicated bus lanes will separate Viva vehicles from the rest of the traffic. Construction is expected to begin as early as 2007.
VIVA is the first public-private transit partnership in the Toronto area. ![]() ![]() ![]() Transfer station ![]() Main connection terminal in Toronto with the subway connection ![]() ![]() ![]() VIVA is a branch of York Region Transit, which operates other smaller-capacity routes in the northern suburbs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() An articulated VIVA bus in blue livery ![]() ![]()

is good that countries like Canada or some of Europe go to the same way that Colombia did with transmilenio seven years ago..

A bus...wow.
A blue bus to boot....VIVA LA BLUE BUS!!! A lot of expensive frippery...flash over substance...I don't care if they have nude hot tubbing in the buses...at the end of the day, it's still shitty suburban transit any way you slice it. KGB |

Viva looks amazing and the website is really interesting as well. It's too bad they didn't get better buses for the rest of YRT, too though- those New Flyers are crap.

Those are some slick looking buses. A far cry from the ugly / smelly ones we have here in Oakville.

Yeah, no. There's no way you can make a New Flyer look like one of those new Van Hools. They're worlds apart.

Looking more closely, the VIVA looks almost like that test-run fuel cell bus that they are driving around here.
Even more irony, the New Flyers are the same buses that they use here on a normal basis. It's kind of sad that most buses in the US and Canada look identical and dull. But Canada is getting better looking buses, like this VIVA. |

Actually, this batch of Belgian-made buses got into a lot of controversy because the operator did not buy Canadian.

Interesting...but the Europeans still make better looking buses than us, we should take notes or import.
When looking at the buses in Europe and Asia, they really make our buses look like crappy boxes. |

YORK REGION TRANSIT also has these buses.
They're built in Canada, but they're based on a European design. ![]() |
