Also, the work has finally started on the Borders Store at Westfields (after 3 months of waiting....). Looks like the interior development of the Greater Union cinemas is still on hold...

It's the same render, but the second one is squashed up to make it look big.

yes it is 1 floor higher... looks nice though, looks like a chunk of the high-rise section of latitude tower

And just a little news on the justice precinct, it appears that the refurbishment of Jeffrey House will be complete in a month, while the new court buildings and Attorney Generals office will be completed at the beginning of next year- they are way ahead of schedule on construction! (site is on top right on first aerial pic from Cul, great pics by the way!!)

There are a 4 clear 'n nice renders of the 21,000 sqm Justice Office Building @ the architect's flash site Bates Smart. There is also a good rundown on their involvement with the project when clicking onto the document icon, next to the render thumbnails. The blurb explains there is going to be a skylit 10-level atrium within!

Yes Parramatta originally called Rose Hill was established the same year as Sydney was settled 1788. Only 24 km west of Sydney city it is the second most important commercial and retail centre in Sydney metro. Some say the food from Parramatta saved Sydney from famine during a vicious drought in 1791 when all the crops around the Sydney settlement failed.

It was renamed Parramatta after the local aboriginal tribe called Burramatta in 1791. It remained a fertile agricultural region for many years during Sydney's early days and housed many convicts including females at the infamous Female Factory.

It is a city within its own right and has a Lord Mayor rather than just a mayor. It even has its own tree the Parramatta Redgum or Eucalyptus Parramattensis named after it.

yes parramatta has great history. it boasts many historic bldgs and the oldest bldg in australia,-
elizabeth farm-1793.

Thanks very much for that info you two. Only passed Parra when I went out to Blue Mountains from Sydney so really didn't see much of it at the time! (1997).

I like to look in on the Oz forums from time to time to reacquaint myself with your great country.

Its a pity the building went. It wasn't too bad IMO. I'm not a fan of "facadism" so therefore I would probably rather see the whole thing gone than have a couple of remaining walls standing there as some sort of testament to the buildings existance ....

Looks like the 'Exeter Manor' site tower has been finally given a green light. The site is being prepared for construction. The wall is still there - hope they haven't decided to keep it?!
