Annoyingly tells us nothing about what is going to happen to the O'Connell St site.

Or do we need to wait for a full MetroWest announcement.

The first station design and precinct plan for the Sydenham to Bankstown Line conversion (T2M) has been released.

Pretty much as expected for one of the most curved stations on the line. Retain both heritage buildings, minimal changes to the platform curvature and a new concourse connecting to light rail.

Mentions Mechanical Gap Fillers but no real details.

For those who just want pics.
Looks like quite a nice plaza they aim to create.

It really is an easy win, given that it is already an "interchange" - the major structure is the missing link that the community has been craving for some time. Limited immediate resident impact also once opened - a little in Bedford, and rear access from Ewart Lane

Having interchanged at Dulwich Hill on Sunday the current situation is definitely less then ideal.

Agree, that's low hanging fruit. A couple of things:

-the light rail terminus might need an expansion to two platforms serve by a double crossover. That is not contemplated in the plans.

-my wife would criticise the purely architectural elements of the project, the building renders, the choice of the bins, the benches and other details. She's got a point, an aesthetic one, but a point nevertheless. Why things get uglier when you move west?

I can only say there was something planned for yesterday. I guess the premier might be preoccupied with the bushfires, or perhaps they have not been speedy enough moving Kathleen back to Barangaroo. That has to happen soon or we will see a TBM traffic jam at Blues Point.

So the station is half gated?

The detailed floorpan of changes to the exisiting entry note the removal of opal readers and installation of gates, yet the new concourse doesn't have gates and definitely isn't wide enough for any.

Also it could definitely do with more platform shelter, at the very least a low impact glass awning surrounding the new elements.

No way the metro project will pay for (or get involved in the consequences of) a double ended stub for the light rail. Governments don’t work that way
