Southbank would look great with towers at this height!

Agree and at that height in South Brisbane would be great. Try telling the green minded, nimby type Westender Benders that though.

That was what my reference to glue was all about.

Disagree. I don't want to see the area turned into a precinct akin to Melbourne's Southbank. It might make for a nice skyline from a distance, but the place absolutely sucks at street level. Height do not maketh the place.

The Rosewood is going in Queen's Wharf though. I can't see us getting a second Hilton hotel unless vacancies take a dive again but given all the hotel construction at the moment I can't see this happening also given there are four new hotels going in Queen's Wharf.

Hotels U/C:

- The Ritz-Carlton hotel
- Rosewood hotel
- The Grand hotel
- Dorsett hotel
- Hotel Indigo New Farm
- Hyatt Place Woolloongabba

Proposed:
- Wyndham Spring Hill
- 426 - 442 St Pauls Terrace

There's also the new tower of The Point Brisbane - Hotel (shortly to be UC), Banyan Tree's rejig now has a hotel component, few smaller ones approved on Catxon St, rumors of Queens Plaza adding a hotel

Council would never allow those heights around 4101. Not when the election is in March.

It's Jonathon Sri's ward though so may not be political suicide

Could be on state government controlled land i.e. around the Cultural Centre, if you recall the proposals from about 5 years ago:

Cultural precinct to get new theatre, hotel under proposed master plan

That proposal will never go ahead - the heritage listing of the Cultural Centre guarantees that it is dead and buried.

It might not just influence the vote in the Gabba Ward though. The LNP Council is known for being Developer-friendly (as is the LNP as a party), so the specter of lifting building heights in South Brisbane could reverberate through other wards as well, especially ones that might have a fear of "over development" simmering.

Maybe not, but there are a lot of state government assets in the area, perhaps as part of the convention centre, i.e. over the railway lines, or on Stanley Place, physically separate to the Cultural Centre or as new extension as per renderings I posted. Or even as part of the future Kurilpa development.

Never say never, just look at Crown Sydney rising, far in excess of Sydney City Council's height restrictions because it's not on council controlled land.
