I can bet my left kidney the breakdown was intentional. The conductor and his buddies definitely pocketed some "change" on that day!

I have seen the president take the SGR on a number of occasions; it would be nice to see him on these commuter lines so he can get a feel of the what Wanjiku goes through. May be when that happens KR may wake up from its slumber.

Addressing these issues are just a simple operational improvement. I wonder if the KR management ever take time to go on these trips regularly i.e. map the customer journey. The potential to scale is enormous given the demand.

I almost missed this post.

Embakasi City.

Has that land being acquired?
Who is funding it?

Actually having being to Nairobi Terminal station hundreds of times like most, I always wondered why the whole area couldn't be turned into a logistical hub. However this plan is far much better. We just need full details and alot of clarity on the project. Hope CCCC are behind it.

I think the central station (Railway city) should take priority over this. Can KR really handle these two projects at the same time?

I think the project is very doable.

Land is cheaper in Syokimau/Mlolongo. The prices could be a little expensive in embakasi but not too expensive like Upperhill/westlands.

With the right infrastructure, zoning laws and policies we can see investors doing commercial or mixed use in Embakasi/Imara area and residential in Syokimau/Mlolongo.

All the government has to do is to build the right infra to take advantage of what is already in place i.e SGR, Stations, Inland terminals and airport. For example. Overpass road linking SGR station and Airport, another bypass road west of current road to separate heavy trucks traffic and ordinary cars. Bicycle tracks and footpath west of Mombasa road along Nairobi national park. Integrate planned BRT with this plan. I don't think doing this complex and may not be even that expensive.

For commercial properties, zoning laws could see many property owners convert their godowns to commercial buildings and maybe take godown further down to mlolongo / athi river or even along eastern bypass.

I wish you well as you wait on another project. We've been talking and waiting for BRT and commuter rail for 10+ years and still no signs.

It's a Chinese project looking to improve and build a hub around Nairobi South Station.

The project is well thought out but executing such projects with the level of disorganization in government will make it take a few years.
