#PROJECT: JUMEIRAH BAY ISLAND

Meraas launched a new project on their website http://www.meraas.com/Island2.html

"The Island 2 is a mixed-use development that will house a very elite high end boutique resort along with low rise apartment buildings and a marina.
In addition, it will be the home for few exclusive home owners who will have the luxury of being on their private beach with great views out to sea or to Dubai's world renowned skyline including the tallest building in the world. The site offers a prime location that is preferred by UAE, GCC and international investors and/or customers.

Island 2 will be located in the heart of Dubai's the shoreline of Jumeirah with direct access from Jumeirah Road (The Beach Road). This 6.3 million Sqft (in which 2.5 million Sqft already exist) pristine site will be located in a much sought after leisure spot with rooted traditions on the Jumeirah Beach coastline. Linked to the main land (Jumeirah Road) through a 300m long bridge and it will be the only connection between the site and the main land."

This 6.3 million Sqft (in which 2.5 million Sqft already exist)

How is this possible? What are they talking about? The second logo island? Surely not about the Promenade site...

The project was widely in the news in the Netherlands since van Oord is a Dutch company. I'm glad to find it here. I think it's weird that the official website calls it "Island 2" (which is a dumb name ) while some other sources clearly call it Jumana.
I'm really glad to see a new exciting project like this. But at the same time, the first thing I thought was, why don't they just continue working on those excising islands?

Let's count, we have:
Maritime City, Underused, mostly on hold
World Islands, Constant stream of big plans, but Not very well going.
Palm Jumeira, almost full of buildings, but still some big projects to do
Palm Jebel Ali, The sand's there, but the rest is totally on hold
Palm Deira, Unfinished, with some existing giant pieces of land on a valuable location, but no building plans
Waterfront, small parts are just above the water
2nd logo island, buildings on hold
Porto Dubai island, buildings on hold
Extra containerterminal, Island not finished
Jumeira Garden City islands, currrently 3 islands, there is actual progress on the breakwaters, but I havenīt seen plans for buildings

To me it seems they still haven't abandoned the forward fleeing strategy in attracting investors.

My 1st thought was why not build it in the World Development!

What a complete and utter waste of time. They really should stop vandalising Dubai's coastline.

Anybody else curious if they continue building islands all the way to Iran, even with so much space inland?
