I think the strip of tall towers on the far left of the model is going to be the strip we've been anticipating.

Abu Dhabi to spend US $9.5 billion on island

Abu Dhabi will see a massive residential and commercial city project at Abu Al Shuoom island, according to news reports. It is likely to be called the Emirates Pearl and will cost US $9.5 billion. Names linked with the project are Malaysia’s PPM, Al Ain-based Al Rayyan Investment and Abu Dhabi-based National Company for Property Investment.

The entire project will sprawl across 5 million m² and will include a luxury hotel, hospitals, university and family entertaining facilities. “It will be an important destination for business, tourism and education as Abu Dhabi is at the centre between East and West. We are one of the first companies to be involved in the project,” said a statement from PPM.

Shares in the project company have been allotted to the Retirement Pensions & Remunerations Fund of Abu Dhabi and Zayed Charity Work Organisation.

This was the same thing written in the older articles too but I still dont get it. Does this mean that the project will be non-profit, at least the part built by the government?

This is who Abu Dhabi government looks after, the nationals. We can see many towers rising in Dubai, but still many local people are living in nests!

I don't think that all of the profits will be sent to Retirement Pensions & Remunerations Fund of Abu Dhabi and Zayed Charity. The first article says that it's part of the income.

The UK’s Maunsell Consultancy Services has been awarded the main consultancy contract on the USD9.5 billion Abu Shaoum Island project, known as Emirates Pearl

The contract covers design work, preparation of tender documents and construction supervision for the island’s infrastructure.
A consortium made up of Malaysia’s PPM International, the local Al-Rayyan Investment Company and local National Real Estate Investment Company were selected to develop the project in December 2004.
Turkey’s Nurol Group was awarded the first contract on the project to build an eight-lane, 600-metre bridge linking the mainland with the island.

New $680m firm set up in Abu Dhabi
Posted: Saturday, April 30, 2005

Abu Dhabi

A new real estate company will soon launch a major development at Abu Dhabi's Al Reem (Abu Shuoom) island.

The Surouh Real Estate, capitalised at Dh2.5 billion ($680 million), will soon be established in the emirate. It plans to float shares through a Dh1.375 billion initial public offering (IPO) next month, said a Gulf News report.

The company has won approval from the Abu Dhabi Planning and Economy Department, said Saeed Bin Eid Al Ghafli, head of the Founder's Committee, Surouh Real Estate.

He said the founders will soon invest Dh1.125 billion, some 45 per cent of the company's capital.

The remaining 55 per cent equivalent to Dh1.375 billion will be raised through an IPO next month at a nominal price of Dh1 per share and an additional one fil as offering cost.

The Abu Shuoom project will provide a mix of luxury villas and apartments, hotels, hospitals, clinics, schools, mosques and commercial, residential and recreational property.

The National Investor and First Gulf Bank will be the lead managers to the IPO.

just a small question to the UAE nationals or anyone who has any Logical , and non-offensive answers,
why are these projects just starting now, why werent they implemented during the Days of Sheikh Zayed,
it seems that all of these projects were announced right after his passing away ?
can someone explain ??

i don't think it has anything to do with Sheikh Zayed's death (allah yer7amah) in my opinion what's happening now is just another construction boom liek the one occured back in the 80's and a project like this island is not dedicated 100% to tourism it's just like building another city center in AD because the main island on AbuDhabi is almost out of empty land and the city is expanding by nature so such a project in need to develope new area's

that clears it a lil bit, although I didnt see one press release (at least in english) where the project was called The Pearl. Al Reem sounds better, Im tired of Pearls.
