I guess it's better than a presently hideous vacant building, however. They're making it look less hideous...kinda.

But just think of all the birds that would fly into the glass!

But honestly, it has to be money. Can't be cheap to add a bunch of glass to areas that may be just mechanical areas of the building.

They aren't developing that parking lot. It will be at the NW corner.

You´re right. It looks like they have to tear down some houses. Hopefully they'll develop the parking lot, as well.

Three houses in all. One has been vacant for awhile. I think Kowalskis owned one or two of them. Don't expect that parking lot developed. Mt Zion Temple owns and uses the lot to the north as well. Those lots have been there for decades. Barring some revolution in driverless cars, ride sharing, etc there going to be there a long time.

I just went in to the newly renovated store the other day to check it out and grab a Starbucks. Looks fantastic. I grew up in the area, so nice to see how it's improved. Not that Mac-Grove was ever that dumpy to begin with.

The City's HRA meeting on 3/22 will vote on an extension for Sherman's next phase of the West Side Flats development. More time is needed to finalize there financing. Included is a $1.12 million HOME loan which will help subsidize the development costs of making the buildings extra environmentally friendly. A "Passive House" is the term they're using.

The city also needs more time to construct a new sanitary sewer system which will cost $2.5 million that will also serve the Weidner development to the south.

The agreement also stipulates that the northern parking lot along Wabasha Street that was part of the first phase must be developed by 2022.

Downtown’s Ecolab Tower: apartments, offices, hotel, or all of the above?

"When Ecolab leaves its 19-story corporate headquarters in downtown St. Paul this spring, what will fill the void?

At least five and as many as seven groups of developers have stepped forward to answer that question by submitting competing purchase offers for the 50-year-old office tower at 370 Wabasha St..."

"...Dave Brooks, one of three finalists to recently present a proposal to Ecolab’s real estate team. “Doug makes the final call. He said it’s not a real estate deal — ‘whatever is right for St. Paul, that’s what I’m going to pick.’ He calls the shots.”

Brooks, who owns the neighboring Alliance Bank Center, is hopeful that he and a handful of backers have caught Baker’s ear. “I’m looking at a flagship hotel with a group,”..."

"...developers who have submitted plans include Custom House developer Exeter Group Chairman Jim Stolpestad, who confirmed on Friday that his company is a finalist, and the Ryan Cos. of Minneapolis, as well as St. Paul developer Richard Pakonen. A spokesman for Pakonen declined comment on his proposal..."

"...Meanwhile, lease with C-and-K Properties of New York City for the 15-story Ecolab University Center building at 380 Wabasha expires in 2019. Ecolab plans to continue to own and operate the six-story Ecolab Communications Center at 360 Wabasha..."

The crane is going up at the Oaks Union Depot. It's a full sized tower crane type.

Found a rendering of the former Stoltz Dry Cleaners building at Grand and Snelling on F&C from a couple months ago. Should be a nice improvement for that corner.
