More info regarding this would be appreciated.
I live and own a villa in al reef and through my job came to know details of the airport expansion (2 more runways) that will NOT involve the demolition of al reef

Well the same can be said about passengers going on EK buses to Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Great to see EY expansion in India. Now Abu Dhabi's seat capacity to India is pretty close to Dubai's, except EK has to share seats with FlyDubai whereas EY has 50k to itself plus 25k for Jet Airways to AD. The next logical move for EY would be start up a low cost carrier to take some business from Air Arabia and FlyDubai.

EY should at least offer low cost flights to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Philippines from Al Ain.

I wonder if Air Arabia is planning to start to operate from Al Ain to the Indian subcontinent countries. Air Arabia started operating flights from Ras Al Khaimah to Dhaka after RAK Airways ceased operations. EY can possibly do that job too

What happens in UAE is airline company based out of one emirate does not bother or risk asking about starting flights from another Emirate....especially when it is the biggest (and the wealthiest by a huge margin) of the 7!! In the case of Air Arabia flying from RAK, what happened was their airline company had become defunct while the airport remained fully functional and no one else wanted to fly there so they asked Air Arabia if they could start flights there... Also Sharjah and RAK rulers are cousins (notice the same family name)!!

I initially had some hopes on Rotana Jet starting medium haul flights from Al Ain but now that they have shifted their entire focus to AUH looks like it is going be just Etihad, but then no one knows when they plan to start services from there.

Yeah, only EY can be based in Al Ain. The government won't let anyone else set up their base there. To be honest, all the government needs to do is open the Etihad railway connecting the city of Al Ain to AUH, and they can take so much business away from DXB.

Even DXB is not as open to other carriers as EK and Dubai Airports make out to be. In 2007, Jazeera Airways had all of their sixth freedom flights cancelled because they were taking too much business away from EK. It was a big deal for them because DXB was their second largest hub.

Is this confirmed? Someone told me that they withdrew because they couldn't compete there?

I remember reading about it in 2007 but can't find any news articles about it anymore. But they used to fly to many destinations from DXB like the Maldives, Beirut, Mumbai and some others. And they used to charge significantly cheaper prices than EK. It would seems strange to drop all of them at once especially since destinations like Mumbai and Beirut must have been succesful.

Nope...it was clearly because Dubai stopped allowing them to fly from there...Few months later The Govt. themselves announced FlyDubai....Also around the same time there was an interview with Marwan Boodai, the owner of the airline where he mentioned about it!!

So how did Dubai justify that? Is it acceptable in fair competitions? Especially that they always claim that they support open skies policy.

I'm not sure. They were flying 6th freedom flights so even if they had the rights, the local government has the right to block those routes. Just like the Italian courts tried to do with EK's Milan - JFK flight even though EK had the rights and the relevant permissions.
