So glad they've got rid of that sinister looking building...

Before I post today's demolition photos, here's one of the building that was on William Street. (I went up Communication Row when I looked at the demolition).

Taken in 2015.

Pavilion was next to Serco.

Also going is this building, seen in 2014. Submarine, Royal Navy Nautical Club Royal Marines

Onto the demolition photos.

First saw the site from the end of Holliday Street.

It was Cedar House for Serco.

Communication Row

The former naval club is still standing, but the car park is closed.

Just walked past here and the Demo team have gone leaving two big piles of Earth behind. Hopefully we get a start on this in Q1, but there is nothing on the Court website detailing when construction is expected to start like on some of the other developments listed.

Unrelated but hopefully we see something soon for that eyesore situated between this and Granville Lofts. It’s 240 Holiday St, I have not found any previous outlines or proposals for it but surely it can only be a matter of time. The only thing I found on it was that is was listed for Rent on Rightmove and Zoopla but has now been removed with the listings being undated:

I really was expecting at least some site preparation straight after the demolition, hopefully we won't have to wait too long.

New application has gone in for some amendments that I think you're going to like.

2017/10935/PA - Variation on 2017/03355/PA to amend plans by adding a further two storeys (an extra 11 apartments) to make a total of 225 apartments in the development.

Thank for finding Ralph, so we're up to 10FL now, the additional two floors only apply to the Communication Row elevation of the scheme, this is to integrate it better into the adjacent scheme - Bishopgate.

I really can't wait to see both of the project take off, the look absolutely quality, and once again expanding our City Centre.

Quote:
This is an addendum for 11 additional apartments on a previously consented scheme for 214 apartments.

The design has been developed in parallel with the development of the adjacent site and the massing has evolved to take into consideration both the scale of William Street, and the proposed elevation to Communication Row.

The design of the additional units is based on the philosophy of the consented scheme, with warehouse style detailing and low pitched roofs providing a visual connection.

The roof pitch has been rotated to generate a lower waves line to Communication, with the introduction of Dormer type windows and roof lights reducing the apparent height of the proposed new extension.

The additional height is focused on one block only, with no amendment to the lower blocks facing Williams Street.

The additional proposed apartments generate a gradual step in height along Communication Row leading to the Corner of the street which is the subject of a separate planning application.

Application Number 2017/10935/PA
Application Type Variation of Condition
Site Address Computer Centre 21 William Street City Centre Birmingham B15 1LH
Proposal Variation of Condition No. 18 of planning permission 2017/03355/PA to amend plans to allow a further 2 storeys (compromising 11 additional residential units) to provide a total of 225 no. apartments with associated access, parking and landscaping

Such an under used area of Birmingham - If anything this should become a second Broad Street but without the late night joints.

Contractor Appointed:

Noticed their branding on the site perimeter when walking past earlier.

The Torsion Group are also involved in the redevelopment of Herbert House on Cornwall Street.

Not quite underway yet. When I walked past yesterday, the site was empty of plant, just a portacabin with one bloke drinking coffee, but the huge pile of rubble as all gone now save a small amount in one corner. Does look like construction is imminent..

Arden Gate | William Street | Residential | 8FL | 27m | Demo.

This is all great news!

If that other little high rise student accommodation tower gets built, on the old nautical club site, this area will really be starting to look good.

Scaffolding up on the Bishopgate street side and Bluecon demolition and remediation stripping this out now.
Arden Gate starting to get more active each day.
Think we may see the student tower going up at the same time as the residential here, transformational if it ends up like the pics we're seeing...and in a couple of months we should see activity starting on the Bath Row student block across the road too. Good times for this end of town

What happened to these naval weapons that used to be outside of the club?
