Er... no. That's obviously just a rough cut-and-paste job by the newspaper to illustrate the potential height...

This is nuts!!!

Would love this to happen, ever since I can remember, Croydon has always been the first place I go shopping before Lewisham and Bromley.

In that big pano, I can see the Crystal Palace tower, which is the other tower on the left? I've never remember where it located.

This isn't the first time a 60-storey tower has been planned for Croydon. There was another one a while back called "Fairfields Hall" or something.

Then we had the 180m Suffolk House, which was cancelled.

Croydon has huge potential and I think it's only a matter of time before the area gets its first proper skyscraper.

Drooooooooooooool

This may well happen - Anglo Irish Bank are the ones financing the Chicago Spire, they got that moving real fast.

And the approval of Croydon Gateway at 155m has set the scene.

This will be a monster. I'm unsure as to where exactly this is going to be. On top of the Whitgift Centre? Replacing the tower that TPS occupies?

So hopefully, Croydon will look something like this in ten years time (positions of towers are a little inexact - did this quickly)...

Hang on there. A British/Irish bank is happy to finance a skyscraper in the USA but its virtually impossible to get one to finance one here?

(Disclaimer: Before anyone says, I know I come from a regional city. But Newcastle gets shown up by everyone in terms of skyscrapers, so I don't care)

Why did Croydon decide to build a supertall all of a sudden? Greater London has a supertall (London Bridge Tower) and a near-supertall (The Bishopsgate Tower) and now you want to build something just less than 300 metres high in Croydon? I ain't pretty sure whether or not Croydon needs this supertall constructed.

Why wouldn't Croydon 'need' a 250m building?? It has good transport links, is a big centre of employment, needs regeneration, already has a mini cluster (sort of) etc etc.

The developers wouldn't propose it if it wasn't economically viable.

Yeah, height doesn't really matter that much when you think about it. Why shouldn't Croydon be able to build a 250m+ tower? If the developers could build 2 x 125m towers, then why not a single 250m+ tower? There are much smaller and less significant places around the world which are building 250m+ towers, so unless you're factoring in heritage sights or flight paths then what's the problem? Heck, even Birmingham had a 247m proposal a few years back.

Croydon needs some sort of project to kick start it. So much potential waiting

Croydon definately has the potential, not sure alsops ideas really were any help though in the masterplan stakes. This tower will be great for the place a truly put it on the map.
