False. I'll deny it.

If you don't like the white concrete, I could invite you to stay at the new Pod Hotel near Times Square:

Knowing what he's doing on the drawing board doesn't mean he has good aesthetic taste. He doesn't, according to me anyway. People can have whatever opinion they want, I don't really mind. But again, overract? This is an architecture forum. If we can't have a visceral emotional reaction to art, what can we do, mod? Because anything else is just beating around the bush. I'm talking about trying to intellectualize design and talk it to death. You subsequently go ahead and forget your initial reaction, the one that is most true and confuse the hell out of yourself. No, art is all about arousing emotion. There is no such thing as an overaction to art or the person who is doing the art.

This is how you design a fašade that is bare. You don't leave it raw concrete, for god's sake, lol. This isn't 1960. Brutalism is god awful trash.

For example, this tower: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/One_Raffles_Place, does it better. You can have a nice looking facade that isn't glass without leaving it rough and unfinished.

Sure it looks great brand new in the summer August light. How will that concrete look after 20 years in late February?

Yeah, just an outright terrible design, and one that I don't think will get better with time.

I'm amazed that towers of this height and design pass muster in a city like NYC

It's bloody awful. It seemed designed for cheapness using raw unfished concrete. Some kind of brutalist revival that is a mish-mash of styles. Doesn't seem like much interest at all went in about how it would look on the skyline, because it looks vile and depressingly vapid with that tall "ladder" of bare concrete clashing with the surrounding buildings. Tall surfaces of empty nothingness and a ponderous messy crown. Very jarring design. Vinoly just harmed the NY skyline twice now with trashy towers (432 Park). He's not good for the city, NY'ers need to kick him out, he's awful now. Bare concrete will never be liked by the public, it's institutional and dystopian. A few will enjoy it, but they are the few.

Vinoly is basically a Gene Kaufman with starchitect pretensions.

Agreed. The fact that it's so tall is a real tragedy. You now have two vertical "sidewalks" hitting a near 1,000ft, and clashing with the surrounding glass and limestone buildings in a very ugly way.

Just paint the concrete bright red! The skyline needs some colour!

That looks like Renzo Piano collaborated with Vinoly.
